Now I'll admit straight away - Personally, I am really not a fan of the really tight corkscrew curls that alot of eBay sellers put on their ponies. If i see a pony like that, it puts me off from buying, because i dread to think what they've done to the hair to get it to stay like that. And they manage to fit in way too many curls, each curl must be soo thin o.o

And I love to experiment with pony hair :D My aim is to try and recreate factory curl as closely as possible...And this is one of my favorite attempts, modeled by Sparkler, who very kindly allowed this very unflattering view of her to be taken :p

What do you think? And how does everybody else like to style their ponies hair? :3 Any hair styling disasters out there too? xD

I'm only just beginning to experiment with curling pony hair. I've tried doing the corkscrew ones recently and think they look quite pretty. Once I've mastered them I'll try some others. I think the soft curls are my fav.

My curls always fall out! I still have yet to get a good curl out of pony hair :( but I like sparklers tail! Mostly right now because I gave up on curls I am working on buns and hair styles for customs!

i think sparkler looks gorgeous. those curls look just perfect :D i agree totally with you on the tight curls, looks really weird. looser curls are ok, and really nice one like these are just so pretty <3

I personally agree with you. Tight curls are a turn off. lol. When I see them on ebay I quickly look at other ponies. I like the loose ones, they look more 'real'.

I havent tried curls yet. soon.

Thats why i like these kind of curls, they look so pretty and natural ^__^

Tight curls are weird to me.

I usually wrap the tail around a back pony leg and give it a nice bounce/curl at the end I do curl some ponies but not tight curls. Just one curl on their tail and it's easy to wash out.

I wouldn't know how to do factory curls tho, and I'm afraid of messing with them when they still have them!

Looks great Amaris! How did you do it? It looks a lot like factory curl. I have experimented with different curling methods. I usually use sponge rollers and wrap the hair loosely.

i have been wrapping the tail around one of the legs since i was like ten years old. dunno why but i think someone told me that that was the way they did it at the factory. but i have no idea:p
ive stuck with that.
i haaaaaaate the tight curls on ebay, i would never (unless i really, really, really wanted it) buy one of those ponies. i imagine their hair to be completly stiff from hairspray or glue:p and if they have been boiled inn i imagine it would be hard to get them out without ending up with completly dry, and messed up hair.
sparkler looks great, the curls are just right:D how'd you do that?

the other day i put in lots of pens (had no straws) to try and curl one of my ponies tails, and i apparently 1. didnt use hot enough water or 2. took the pens out too soon, cus the hair was straigt. even straighter then before i put them in:p

I do the same as Peppermint Truly for the tails. I usually just wing it when styling hair - I use the conditioner method to get rid of frizz, but I'm kind of hopeless at creating stuff that looks like factory curl.

On the other hand, I'm pretty good at preserving or emphasizing factory curl that I can still see on a pony if I have to defrizz. I just comb the conditioner in more gently in the direction of the waves, then gently wrap it in paper towels to dry in a way that conforms to the curl.

i got an italian CJ with those dreaded curls. she had everything curled. and they were so stiff and sticky from hairspray or whatever it was. ugh, terrible :icon_razz1:

Wow, that's a really natural-looking curl! Good job! :] I like to wrap my ponies' tails around their back legs, and their manes around their necks; that way, it lays nicely, but it's not too curly.

This is usually what I do

The only pony I have they had tight curls was a SLH and I had her curls done tightly so that they would eventually fall loose, which they have and look awesome. I know when they were done the person used the straw technique the jupi uses (I dont have the link anymore to it >.<)

I LOVE your curls. I am totally "anti- hairspray pony pageant pony curls"-- i always suspect that the ebay buyers may be trying to cover up frizzy hair by masking it in awful pipe curls!

Wow! howd you get her tail to do that?
For me and my ponies it depends on who is who for styles.
I usually like to keep the hairstyle close to what they were given in the factory.

I actually do like the corkscrew curls but only on certain ponies. Tootsie or Moondancer or somebody with strait hair would be a definite no.

I let them dry with the legwrap trick too :p
