"The Last Roundup" *SPOILERS!*

When she was pure fanon, opinions were split all over the place between those who envisioned her as anything from a bit slow upstairs, to dumb in some ways but genius in others, to only having a speech impediment, to simply being socially awkward, and probably others I'm forgetting or haven't run across. Some decided that she's an awesome caring mother to Dinky Doo, while others discard the whole notion that she's a mother at all; some insisted her name was Ditzy Doo, while others stuck with Derpy Pony or Derpy Hooves. About the only things which people could agree on was that she was clumsy, well-meaning, good-natured, and pretty universally loved. Having her as the hilarious ****** everyone laughs at would go against all fanon of her, not to mention the entire theme of FiM.

I think that this is the difficulty I'm having. As an adult fan/Pegasis/enter clever name here I am aware of the fandom behind Derpy and completely appreciate the shout-out.

...but a six or seven year old girl does not - and all she knows is that RD was frustrated and rolling her eyes at a slow-speaking, uncoordinated, slightly-off pony. I can see where this can be a very big issue considering that it is a show made for little girls.

It's so weird to be geeking out AND slightly disturbed simultaneously.

Which rules? I double-checked myself at USEF after seeing your post, though of course there are going to be other rules outside the US and maybe for regionals/clubs.

Edit: I hope this doesn't come across smart-alecky. I'm more of a hobbyist, horses-are-pets kind of guy and really don't know much about formal eventing other than what info I can find online.

 Hmm, every horse show I've been to has had the same rules.

I loved the episode and Derpy's appearence!

Just one thing: I don't think they were trying to make Derpy mentally ill or anything - that's just the Derp derping! She's always been crazy because she wants to!

Was totally not expecting it at all :) Episode was a funny one in itself, but that first part just made me day....heck it made me week :) I've always loved her for the fanon stories surrounding her character, but now i love her even more :) So happy she's officially called Derpy as thats what she'll always be to me lol. She really reminds me of original Apple Jack, Sundance and Shady :) Clumsy and a little bit air headed, but with good intentions :)

And the ending....OMG it had me in hysterics. When they all got off the train I jokingly said to my sister 'what have they just abandoned Pinkie and Rarity', and then that last clip came on we both started howling with laughter :)

Over All a very good episode :)

I started to watch.I saw the Derpy scene.I turned it off.Even G1 references won't save it.Wait for pure bronification now, people.
Edit:wow,my 200's post and I am all grumpy.Still,I have no desire to watch this episode completely, especially after seeing pony toilet screenshot.

Yeah.....I'm not feeling the Derpy thing. I guess maybe because they could have chosen a better way to include her character that didn't make her so....*insert your negative adjective*. Or maybe because her mere presence made me dislike Rainbow Dash "20% more". Or maybe its because they show makers have started dangerous precedent. Adding shout outs to G1's is one thing. A symbol here or a name there.....but to fully include a character complete with fan made name and personality is quite another. I dunno....to me it's like the annoying Bronies (let me say that I know not all Bronies are annoying....but im talking about the annoying ines) have learned that they can get their way if they bark loud enough. I worry about the future of the show. Maybe ill just stick to the toys from now on.

Which is pretty much how I'd expect RBD to act; kind of like when she was berating Fluttershy for not cheering for her well enough. She can be kind of a jerk at times, after all.

I can see where the objections come from though, and maybe they'll be addressed in a later episode. Guess that's also a side effect of having a show that's given this degree of freedom--there's going to be bits here and there which rub some people the wrong way. There were a couple episodes I wasn't really enthused about either due to their content.

Huh. Dunno then.

That is really cool I have not seen but i can not wait to see!

This is of the best episode so far, IMO. Not just because of Derpy (who is totally adorkable), but because the whole thing was very entertaining. I liked the action-y chase scene.
Unrelated but I love your avatar!

I have to admit - the way they portrayed derpy kinda shocked me. it seemed like they made her speak like she was mentally handicapped (stereotypical thick speech) . I would have been much happier if they had made her speak more clueless like.

it was subtle, and my husband said I was scrutinizing it too closely... but being a show for little kids, I just found it off-putting.

I was just surprised that Derpy spoke, pretty cool.

The characters voice that was a little startling was Cherries Jubilee. And I like the I Love Lucy reference too. Had to explain it to hubby though.

I find myself suddenly in agreement with this part.
