So Mighty Jaxx is all the time putting out some weird things! They've had their whole dissectables line, which turned half the pony into like an anatomical model, and now they've got this Rainbow Dash with four eyes! I want to know what you guys think about these weird things they keep making, and especially about this one in particular!

Personally speaking, I think it's really cool, and if I could afford the price tag right now I'd have to consider getting the preorder. I love their description for it (found in the link above) because it pretty closely matches my impressions of the figure, and it's the same kinda weird thing I could find myself drawing sometimes. I hope that this starts something, and they make more figures with that kind of impressionistic thought put into them.

For me seeing this kinda helps me put their dissectables line into better context as well. When the dissectables came out all I could think was "That's really cool but also really weird, who are they targeting with this and what made them decide to make it?" This Rainbow Dash has me thinking that maybe they really do just have a thing for these bizarre, niche sort of ideas like I sometimes do. These don't really seem like the kind of thing that would have massive appeal to me, so it seems kinda weird from a business standpoint but this, to me, makes it clearer that it's like a passion project more than a business idea.

What do you guys think? Do you have anything to share about all of this?

This is the style of a particular artist, but I don't know anything about him.

I like the pose, the shape and the tail.

But the four eyes? I don't understand it. Maybe if it was like goggles she's wearing it'd be cute, but.. eh
Hah, yeah, that's what I expect most people's reaction would be. It's kinda why it's confused me that they make some of the things they do. But after reading the description they gave it seems like it's basically intended to be Rainbow's inner self and her outer self portrayed separately using the different eyes.

I did also have the goggles thought, though!

-nods- Right, I'd meant to look up the rest of their artwork before I posted this, too, and forgot. I have now though, I'm really not a fan of the rest of their work. This seems like a pretty big style departure even for them.

Mighty Jaxx is a company that makes high quality figures and sculptures for adults. They frequently partner with artists and brands to make unique items for collectors.

The Hidden Dissectibles is a collection made by the extremely talented Jason Freeny. He’s an artist who is well known in the sculpture and art communities for many years for his balloon animal works. He has made many collections for Mighty Jaxx.

The same can be said for Ricardo Cavolo. He too is an extremely talented artist who is well known for his vibrant colours and multi-eyed creations.

While both are vastly different (for traditionally children’s brands) they offer unique options for the adult collectors who are looking for unique art pieces to add to their collections. As an artist and animation lover that I am I love these and how unique they are. But I also in general love Jason as a human overall.

When I first saw this figure, it felt right up my alley. I would love to have it someday but I don’t know if it’s possible for me right now. I too find most of my scribbles have the eyes some way like this as well.

I also recognised the art style from Neck Deep’s “Life’s Not Out To Get You” album cover. When I googled the artist, it turns out they did the art for that and also all their art was very wow

I quite like her, including the four eyes. However, I feel like the color scheme is off. Maybe it's the blue? It's not as warm as the rest of the sculpture. A different color Rainbow Dash might have been cool.

I think they said this isn't the finalised design, so the end result may differ slightly.

I really like it! It reminds me of when makeup artists use makeup on their eyes to make them look open when they are not or a warrior makeup. It's really beautiful actually.

Or like a crystal gem fusion >.>

She kinda looks like a fancy version of the toys in the adult happy meal thing McDonald’s did recently ^_^;
I like it as a unique piece to look at, but I don’t think I’d want to own it.
She’s designed really well though with her tail being what holds her up and one hoof attached to the rainbow for stability :)

It's a shame they ruined such a nice horsey sculpture, with such a nonsensical design choice. You can't even fix it by removing a pair, because the normal eyes are too low, and the second pair are freakish and bulging. It reminds me of those weird 4- eyed McDonalds adult happy meal toys. And at that price? They can kiss my butt.

I can see why people wouldn't like it, but I'm kind of obsessed. It reminds me a little bit of abstract art with its bright colors and unique concept!! The top eye is so beautiful with all its details :lolpony:Though with that price, I'm definitely going to have to skip it haha

I do like the interesting concept of double eyes, and it makes a lot of sense given the artistic reason too.

From Ricardo Cavolo:

"There were two reasons to drawing so many eyes on people. I want to speak about not regular people, but someone special and different form the average. I love to use symbolic details and I thought that with more than two eyes the person becomes different from the rest. And at the same time, as they are heroes in my stories, a hero is wise and intelligent, and I thought that the more you see, the more you know, the wiser. So more eyes, means you are able to see more than normal."

Yeah, I absolutely love the reason for it. I'm thrilled that I very nearly "got it" before reading that description the first time. The differences in the two sets of eyes kinda gave a bit of that impression after I looked at it for a little bit. It's the kind of thing I really appreciate in artwork, personally, speaking as someone who will sometimes make my characters faceless so you're forced to read their body language.
