Equuscallabus commissioned me waaaay back in October to make her a pony based on the Henri Rousseau painting "The Sleeping Gypsy".

I used 12 different colors in her hair (a new record for me! lol), all from Dollyhair in nylon. (props to Velaria ;) ), in an effort to try and mimic the dress the gypsy is wearing. I chose to split the lion and gypsy between the two sides, because the DS already had so much going on with the vase, guitar (which I had to kinda finagle down the leg to keep it from wrapping around it, lol), pillow, and gypsy. The moon is very striking in the painting, and thus I wanted to both keep it on the right side of the painting, but also elevate it in the sky. That made it the perfect pairing for the lion on her NDS. ;)

Alright, already, enough about my choices and colors. Here's the pics:

Wow!! that's brilliant :D I love the hair colours and your painting is fab :D

that is amazing! your paint job looks so much like the original and i love the fact that the ponies eyes are closed!

I can't even begin to say how fantastic that pony is. She is brilliant!

Wow! You did an absolutely amazing job of reproducing that painting on the pony. I can't even accurately describe how perfect I think it is.

Putting the lion and the woman on opposite sides was a great idea and it works so well. It shows off both halves of the painting so much better than putting it all on one side of her would have.

Her hair is just awesome. I love how it blends! Just wow.

you captured that painting perfectly, particularly the lion. And I LOVE the colors you chose for her hair. Very nicely done!

Wow! She is fantastic! You picked the perfect pose for her.

stunning...really. just gorgeous.

Thanks everyone, you're so sweet! And, lol, the art reproduction biz had never occurred to me. *giggle* I've put her on my Deviant Art page now (my first submission! ^_^). She's supposed to get to her new home in Oz sometime today (Thursday, Eastern US time), so I'm just sitting on pins and needles waiting to hear from Equus. *bouncebounce*

Wow! I'm a huge fan of Rousseau... actually, my thesis in senior art (yeah, we had to write theses in ART class >.<) focused on Rousseau, as did my "Here Comes the Sun" project (our main project in which we had to represent the sun in the style of our chosen artist). A small group of us painted this image on the wall of my school, too. I often think about replicating art pieces on custom ponies, but I never have the patience... this is absolutely stunning, and geez, how much more accurate could you get? Great job hun. I applaud you.

:yourock:That is absolutely gorgeous!!!!
