Does anyone remember the custom I did based on Loki of Norse Mythology which I posted just over a year ago?
Loki likes pine needles, they remind him of his mother
Well, I have finally managed to complete his friend/nephew/long-time travelling companion, Thor
I started him in the easter holidays and have just finished him this month
Like Loki, his hair is made of embroidery cotton (my grandmother has boxes and boxes of the stuff, it's fabulous), which I think really suits him
He has sculpted feathers and beard, as well as his belt, megingjörð, which he wears to increase his already prodigious strength, and his iron gloves, Járngreipr, which allow him to handle his most famous possession, his hammer Mjölnir.
Now, an interesting fact about Mjölnir in the mythology is that it can be folded up and put in Thor’s pocket or as a pendant around his neck etc. so he does not have to carry it everywhere (unlike in the Marvel comics, Thor is not the only one able to lift the hammer, but it is still extremely heavy and not very practical for travelling)
So, when Thor-the-Pony isn't using his hammer, it appears as part of his symbol
Thor-the-Pony doesn't actually have a hammer because I didn't sculpt one for him
And here are the two travelling companions having an adventure at Thornton beach
