To open or not to open that is the question

I got a G1 Genie outfit in the package off ebay for a good price. Its MOC but I want to open it so bad but should I or should I not. I also have a G2 magic motion Ivy in box and I want to open her up so bad but again should I.

Has anyone else had this prob.

I think toys are meant to be played with so I would totally open it. If you plan on selling it later, you should probably refrain from opening it. It is a tough choice!

that is why i cant buy mint ponies. i would want to open them up and play with them. unless i already had that pony item loose and then a mint one for display.

Congrats on your new pony! I would too be in this dilemma if I were you...it's so hard to decide. If it were me, I would keep it in the box for a few days to remember the way they used to look in the store, then photograph it in the box... But I would have to open it, most likely. Does the box do any harm to the pony as it ages? I am new to all of this. I know I wouldn't be able to not touch it, smell it, play with it. It is totally up to you, so do what feels right. :smilepony: It must be so cool to own a G1 still in its box. It's like your own little time capsule! For me, being able to hold the pony brings so much joy, so I wouldn't be able to NOT open it.

Oh, and if you open it, you can always keep the box, too!! The best of both worlds.

If you think selling it later, keeping it in the box is better so you can get your money back. If not, or it doesn't matter when the value goes down, then definetly open it

I have this problem all the time, & I just can't stop myself from being bothered over both decisions. XD I firmly believe toys are meant to be played with, & should be freed from their plastic imprisonment lol. I have a hard time parting with things I love, so I don't mind opening them. But then sometimes...I get the nagging feeling I should keep it in the nice box. So now I have a mixed collection of MIB G4s & out of box ones lol. I find if you don't make the decision fast enough you'll never convince yourself to open them. XD On the bright side..opening them makes them easier to display.

If you really want to, open it! Being able to touch a pony makes you so much happier. I'm in a similar dilemma with my MIB G3 Twinkle Hope, because she's quite rare. I've had her for months now.

Well you're not the only one This topic tends to come up alot XD And it basicly always ends with "It is your item (outfit in this case) and you are of course free to do whatever you want with it".

Personaly I love MOC/MIB G1 ponies and outfits as the artwork on the boxes are stunning and Id never want to destroy that by ripping into the package.
I also believe that when it comes to G1s the MOCs/MIBs are few and far between and as there are people who enjoy them like that Id just buy the pony/outfit loose if I rather want it like that to save one of few MOCs/MIBs that are left of the G1s.
G2s and G3s seem to have a much higher number of MOCs/MIBs floating around. Especially the G3s so Im not personally all that concerned about them. Plus the artwork isnt as pretty Then again, they're no longer in production either anymore and the numbers and chance of finding them like that will go down if one opens them too.
As for G4s that are still in production - go nutts XD I keep some of them MIB as I prefer them that way, but thats the only reason.

Those are my thoughts on the subject but at the end of the day, as so many have said before me... It is yours to do what you want with

As others have said, at the end of the day it's totally up to you and your desires. I'm a person that has to touch my ponies/merchadise, so I would open the package. If you want to open it but love the package artwork and want to keep that from being torn I do know it's possible to steam open MOC figures (don't know the exact process on that, I just know some Transformers fans have done it). Having the original packaging it good condition can make some things more valuable, though rarely as much as MOC/MIB.
