This pony came from a lot several years ago. Because she is a MO I kept her without question, but now I want to know: is she a factory error variant, or did someone give her a new tail with no tinsel? Her head is sealed on tight and I can see a big washer through the plastic holding her tail in place. Looks like she has a bit of discoloration/tail rust started too. What do you think?

With the washer intact and rusting, sounds like it's definitely a factory thing.

It is possible that someone got bored and ripped out the tinsel just on the tail like if it was all bent and crazy or something happened to it.

Maybe the tinsel was pulled out while the child that had it was brushing it? or maybe the child pulled it out because it became crinkly (crinkly tinsel does NOT look good)? I think I can see some left over tinsel at the base of the tail.

Well, I thought of someone removing the tinsel... but there are no remnants of tinsel in the tail AT ALL. I just checked it again to be sure. No evidence of tinsel ever being present. And I would find it surprising if the tail tinsel was cut/crinkled and needed to be removed when the mane tinsel is perfect. No crinkles or anything.... I don't know. I'm stumped!

Oh, i thought you straightened it. Is the tail glue strong? is the hair easy to pull out (on the tail)? If it is, then that's probably the case, my g3 star swirl a weak tail glue and made the tinsel easy to pull out. Her tail looks like there never was tinsel in it now! maybe try taking the tail out to see if there are any "sticks" of tinsel in it. maybe the child only brushed the tail?

Edit: Oh my god! You have the mail order Star hopper. She has a symbol on her cheek and white hair!

I think your Star Hopper just didn't get tinsel. I once had a Sunspot that had gold tinsel in her mane (like she's supposed to) but silver tinsel in her tail. Her tail had not been removed either.
