What are your collecting goals?

I don't really have a method to my collecting... I collect the ponies I love :) Mostly G3s but some G1s and I limit myself to however many will fit on my shelves ;)
 
Right now my goal is to collect every variation of and any merchandise that has Applejack on it...or at least customs of the rarer ones (I will NEVER be able to afford those columbians or a piggy! LOL). I also have a bunch of customs of her and would like to make/buy more. I'm really limiting myself just to buying her right now because I just don't have the money to buy too much, so I told myself (and my husband) that I would ONLY buy ponies if they were Applejack. Heheh.

Since I set that goal I've only bought a COUPLE of other ponies...at thrift stores or for customs. And the new McDonalds ponies, of course!
 
My current goal is relatively modest, and that is just to own a TAF Munchy. I absolutely adore her. Other than that I just king of collect whichever ponies catch my eye.
 
I basically collect whatever catches my eye at a particular time, but I do have several goals - all the Brazilians (I'm over halfway there!), all the Mexicans (I think I have 15 more to get? And they're all fairly easy to find), all the porcelains (only need Buttons, some Euro versions, and a few coffee cups), and eventually a complete US collection, but that last bit it my least important right now.
 
I'm in the camp of people who just collect favorites, and in the camp of people who really just don't have space anymore to buy less-than-beloved ponies for the sake of completing sets.

The only set I've loved enough to complete is the Rockin' Beats, and that's just because I think of them from the story angle - they're band mates, and I can't keep them apart! (They're also the only non-custom ponies I loved enough to adorn my shelves at college. :D ) I also ended up with all the first-series flutters, but that was accidental through thrift store finds and lot-buying.

I'd love to have a full set of something like the Mountain Boys, but I'll probably never have even one of those, because I refuse to spend more than like $20 on any pony. D: For what it's worth though, I'm really happy with my collection at any given time.

When I shop I just buy bait ponies that I like. As for collecting goal? I want to have all the twinkle eyes. But right now I only have one.
 
My current goal is to complete my winger sets (only got Cool Breeze to go), finish collecting the Big Brother accessories excluding the combs, and collect all TAF ponies, though probably excluding the babies for the time being. :)

For the G1's, I am trying to re-buy my childhood
Ponies. I got most of them,but now I have to get
Some of the rarer ones, (oakly,angel, taf baby sugarberry)
There are also a few non childhood ponies I would
Love to have.

G2s, my goal is to get merry moments, and any
Baby.
G3-i never really had a goal for them,
I either picked out ones I liked, or my mom/friends/
Bf would surprise me with them.
I'm pretty set..I'd be set for good if I had mib chilly breeze,
And kiwi tart

And my ultimate goal is to obtain a greek pony :)
 
I started out with G1's and I wanted to finish off the collections I had started as a kid (e.g., all the original Earth ponies, all the rainbows, all the sparkles, etc.). But then I started looking around and saw some that I liked a lot that I didn't have as a child, like Big Brothers and some of the international ones and a lot others, so I added those to my list. I think my G1 want list is somewhere over 200 now, but I'm really close to completing it. That's not to say I won't add more when I have all those :hugegrin:

I was initially resistant to G3's because the ones I had seen in stores were the 3.5's and I'm not a huge fan of those. But I was eventually won over by the original G3's and since there's no sentimental childhood attachment, I just buy the ones I like.
 
I think it's really good people can only collect what they like, there's who sets I don't buy since I'm not in to them, like sea ponies sweetheart sis, and most baby's.... Though I do have applejack and bow tie with there babies! And bought a seaponie as I think her colours are just like glittering gem, my fav pony!

It's really hard for me, as I get obsessed over it, it's that pokemon feeling, got to have them all! I'd love to get some of the other bits I like! And merchandise is pretty kewl too!

When I see what other people have that also makes me think 'oh I wish I had that' I think it would be pretty amazing to have everything, but until I have a massive house and can have a pony floor, dedicated it so won't happen!

I wonder what makes us collect? Must be something in our brains! Lol
