What do you like in a custom??

Im sure we have all seen a vast variety of different customising styles and techniques during our time collecting, but what Im asking is, what do you like in a custom? What compells you to buy/bid for it, or if you don't buy custom ponies, what stands out for you and makes you remember that particular custom? I think it'll be interesting to see what people like/don't like.


I personally, like a pony to be completely unique. I like raised symbols and ornate eyes, and restoredoll hair does look gorgeous in customs. :)
 
i agree the restoredoll hair looks stunning on ponies :)

I love original ponies, but also g3 remakes, or newborns/babies for existing MLP's :)

i only buy g3 customs, for one, but other than that... restoredoll hair is a definite plus, but the most important thing for me is just a really well-coordinated color scheme. i kind of prefer decal symbols to sculpted ones because you get the nice detail, but it's also not as expensive. and it makes it look more like a factory-produced pony. :B
 
Diet...why do you only buy G3 customs? Just interested :)
 
For me, its what the custom actually is. My favorite are movie and tv show customs. And bands too. So far, I've done a band, a movie, and I'm working on some other movie ones.
 
I like all sorts of things in customs, I really can't pin it down to one thing.
I love restoredoll hair, but other hair looks great if used well and styled properly, I love real MLP hair especially though.
I like hand painted symbols over decals, but decals do have their place, for really intricate details, I would use them.
I like both flat and sculpted symbols equally, but they do have to be well done for me to consider buying them.
Accessories are a bonus, the cuter the better really!!
 
I like a well-crafted, professional quality custom. Something that looks like it came out of it's packaging that way.

I also like customs that do something revolutionary/unusual. For example, using different materials (I remember a custom with foam wings, for example), or different painting methods (I remember one with Van Gogh style sunflowers on her).

I'm also partial to ponies with a not-so-cute side. The borg customs really grabbed my attention.

And of course, being a nerd, computer themed ponies really float my boat.

My favourite hair for customs is definitely Restoredoll. It's so sleek, and the colours are fabulous.
