I JUST HAD A
genvader1 ( Feedback Score Of 57

)
CANCEL 2 OF MY BIDS - IS THIS EBAY DOING THIS?? I've emailed the seller as to why b/c I had a third auction bid with that seller that of course I now want to cancel = the items were leaper baby boy and a fancy mermaid... so again, I have to wonder if this being a new seller was contacted about a private sale as these were priced pretty low - I think around $5 at the moment when they are more like 3x the value. Is genvader1 a member here? I hope not...

this is just weird... weird is all I can say :-(

ok I finally have to vent = actually think there might've been a post about this ethical issue earlier. Is there a vnad10 in the house?? If so, she just cancelled EBAY auctions on a pineapple baby, another tropical baby and a baby sugarberry. I'm not surprised if she went the way of a private sale but AAARRRGH! There were like three bids on the one lot and I'm remembering at least 2 bids on the other, and I'M SURE there were others of us watching those and other auctions = famous last minute bidding always happens...

Look, I myself talk to ebay sellers with a ["hi" from maycrestmom] asking if they are members. I know folks here who start with sales and move 'em to ebay and vice versa and I'm fine with understanding whatever can be done to reduce selling fees, get a good price from a pony find = hey, it's all good. I've gotten ebay sellers to look through inventory to find me stuff and to make a direct BIN for an upcoming auction when I ask are they selling more ponies or is this just it = so I don't generally disparage things so long as you don't hurt other people in the process = these are not auctions yet, no other bidders, etc etc. etc. AND I have never disparaged sellers here who know that they may net more on an ebay sale than direct here = again, it's your pony collection, sell 'em all in a lot for that cathartic feel/sell 'em one by one at top dollar via auctions = I'm not going to arm-twist. No harm in asking, is my policy, but no pressure from me either as I'd want that freedom as a seller myself.

But I swear ebay should have a policy THAT IF THERE IS MORE THAN ONE BID THAN THE AUCTION SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO BE CANCELLED...

cause now you are affecting the situation as there are more than just two people - buyer and seller - involved. And all I's got to say to that is I hope no one here would do something like that...

ok, thanks for letting me publicly vent... whatever, vnad10, I'm obviously not bidding on anything else at this point

Oh and completely different topic = about local Goodwills not having MLP anymore? I found out from talking with a staff person that they are getting collected/sorted out by staff at the central processing station and that's alot of why they are now on ebay as pony lot auctions thru the WA Goodwill (the one with that charitable tag) just so you know... thank goodness for yardsales as a fall back.

Ok, I'm done now = thanks for reading = hope everyone has a great humpday :)

What is this, a new Ebay trend??

There's been another post about this practice recently, and soon after that post, the same thing happened to me for the first time in 10+ years of ebaying. It TICKED ME OFF (even milder words! ha) and without being given any reason (maybe (s)he had a perfectly valid reason for ending the auction early--a change of heart? couldn't bear to part with the pony after all?--, but I wasn't privy to that reason) , all I can do is believe the seller had a better offer (which makes me, the bidder-in-good-faith whose high bid was actually a FAIR dollar amount!-- feel rather...hmmmm tazzy?)

I don't care if it's allowed by ebay rules. The bidder(buyer)/seller contract is implied, and once there were bidders, it was broken. What else might that seller "break"? It all points to customer service and long-term business practices. Maybe he or she made one nice sale out of this item, but (s)he lost a potential repeat customer--maybe more than one, if other bidders felt the same. I simply can't be bothered to deal with a seller who pulls the rug out from under my feet.

Maybe I'm being a stupid-head about it but.... Raawwwr!:taz: (I have "moved on", though, contrary to appearances LOL)

I have nothing against sellers making a profit, just to be clear, nor buyers getting a great deal on a longed-for pony or item of any kind.

OMG They've been cancelled?@?@?! *runs off to look*

That's just not right. I was watching those and getting pretty eager. I wonder if they are relisting? If so, count me out as a bidder.

What's worse than getting your bid cancelled? Having the rare item in the lot "missing" after you pay. I had that happen to me recently. I was SO ticked.

I've noticed alot of people canceling auctions with or without bids early. And it does irritate me.

A few months ago, my mom bid on a bear she really wanted and then the person cancelled and then re-listed it for the same price??? So my mom did not bid again, and the lady kept re-listing it a few times--don't know if it ever sold. Eventually, my mom got it for a cheaper price, so ha!

I don't know why ebay lets people cancel an auction when it has bids--that should not be allowed!

I concur that e-bay ought to have a rule stating no canceling the auction if there have been a bids. Canceled auctions are terrible.

oh funny you should mention about a seller "unhappy" and cancelling/relisting apanda0622 =

my "favorite" pony item hunt story was I was the only and so winning bid on a complete frilly frocks playset = most likely because it was a pick-up item... ok, $10 that's about what I would max out on if I spotted it on craigslist or at a thrift store so I was happy enough = and then snowmaggedon hit and so obviously I'm writing emails saying "hey no worries, hope you are able to dig out = send me your address when you have a clear path and I'll come get... blah blah. Three weeks go by and I'm fine the first two given I'm thinking maybe the power's out/no computer access kinda thing. So of course after we are all dug out the following month later I've heard nary a word from the seller so figure something "tragic" happened (remorse) and so contact ebay just to make sure I'm not on the hook for a bad review down the road. I tell them I'm not buying this item and the only reason I didn't pick up is I didn't get an address... life goes on. I'm on craigslist and what do I see but a complete frilly frocks playset for $5. So I email and go out there and buy it = having a nice chat about "ya know if didn't want to sell it on ebay, don't list it on ebay." She's lucky I was cool enough about the whole thing that I told her how I had already written/spoken with ebay folk that I was not buying item as no address was provided and so I wrote her one last email through ebay saying "I'm not buying" so that she was able to get her seller fees refunded... but man, I thought that kind of experience was a rarity until now this...

Oh and I have an update (Ms Twilight hope you read)

So I emailed seller to explain why he/she cancelled = maybe to relist them all separately? and so here's the response I got

Dear shoppergrrrl,

I am selling these ponies for a friend. When I started putting the items together with bids on them, they weren't in with the rest of them. I asked her where they were and she has no idea if they weren't in the box. If she finds them, I will relist them.

- vnad10

so there it is... read it as you like it and we'll see I guess.

Life goes on...

I can't believe this is even allowed. Am I mistaken that it used to NOT be allowed? My opinion is that if there are *any* bids on it, it shouldn't be able to be canceled!

This one sounds to me as if eBay might have canceled the auction. Not all auctions are canceled by the seller. Sometimes abuse is reported by others, and eBay will cancel an auction until the seller changes it, like if they used someone else's photo or just did something eBay didn't like. Like, when paypal first started, my husband would put in the auction that he'd contact the buyer first and not go through the checkout process, so that we wouldn't have to worry about paypal fees, and so eBay would cancel his auctions, even if people had already bid.

ok, now this is just freaky and I'm starting to wonder if it's just coincidence - I had 2 more auctions = THAT I WAS BIDDING ON -cancelled out from under me...

I've emailed the seller again and I plan on contacting ebay so we'll see... this is "interesting"

woah!! that is so weird!!! I was going to bid on that mermaid pony too, it was in my watch list. GRRRRR....

But don't worry, she has a bridge to sell you instead.

lol @LadyM

Mermaid pony... yep, was watching that one, too. *sigh*

this is just silly, I think someone should seriously talk to ebay and tell them whats going on. I just dont think its very fair at all.

Reading through this, I am glad that you posted about it. I am watching several items, most of them through sellers mentioned. I will know to look out for them ending suddenly, if I decide to bid. Thanks again.

I think it's weird that two auctions were cancelled and not the third one, especially since they were all for MLPs. One would think that if the seller had done something eBay doesn't like, such as using someone else's pictures, they'd have done it for all auctions. Dud you notice anything strange about the pictures or the description? Like, did they look like they were taken from elsewhere? I once came across a couple of auctions in which the seller had simply copied the pics and descriptions from the MLP Collector website. I can't remember whether those were cancelled, though.

Here's the update... again folk all just FYI = I'm glad at least, Snork Maiden, that she honored my request to cancel my third auction when I wrote for an explanantion...

sorry for the quick cut and paste but as you know, the order is reversed, with the original email below the response = so read bottom than top:

Dear shoppergrrrl,

Hi again,
I am new to selling on ebay and thought I made it clear that I dont ship internatioanlly in my auctions.... I recieved many many requests to ship to other countries and politely declined. One bidder responded rudely when I refused to ship. Unfortunately I still got bids from international buyers on a few of my auctions so just got fed up and ended the auctions as it was my error in the listing I guess in not blocking international bidders to begin with. I will most likely relist the auctions that were cancelled, but for now I am just kind of fedup with ebay. LOL. Again sorry for any inconvenience.

Dear genvader1,

heya -

thanks for cancelling the glory auction. By any chance are you a member at any of the my little pony sites - MLParena or MLPTP? I'm maycrestmom over there - so "hi" if you are a member.

Just can you please let me know if you will be relisting those items? Did you have a change of heart or something? Don't want to arm-twist you to part with your collection but I am interested in those items - I was willing to bid about $25-30 for those two - so hoping if you do plan to sell at a later date, you will let me know

thanks!

Monica

Here's my last response to her... again, don't know how "new" or "walked-thru" her response is, but I'll always try to give the person the benefit of the doubt with a

"fool me once... well, you won't fool me again." (even briefer version from the original bushism = for better or worse they're memorable)

Dear genvader1,

oh heya -

Sorry you're having a rough go of it starting out here... yeah, these little toys can be big deals in terms of folks all over the world now recapturing memories/completing collections and what have you... so at any rate, again sorry you had a bit of a bump, but I hope you don't give up comletely on this wild-west shopping bazaar = one thing I would ask in the future though is to not just cancel an auction with bids in place as there's always a suspicion somebody got a private sale instead of abiding by auction rules/and then folks worry about bidding in the future at your site. Specifically with your problem buyers you can always post your answers to their queries about shipping publicly on the listing so other international folk know you are not shipping and that covers you come auction end. Not that I'm a pro seller, just saying it more from a do unto others kinda place = and again, thanks for understanding about glory

best of luck to you in your sales!

and yet again... life goes on.

But honestly, if these ebayers are pony members, of either community -I'll maybe see if I can cross-post now that I'm (sigh) crazy enough to try to hang on both sites:) - I'm hoping in my small way to "handle this at the lowest level possible" (old army ways don't die easily) and get the word out that even if ebay allows it, there's a difference between "legal" and "ethical"... I'm just sayin'

me personally, I did have an experience on an auction where I thought I had said no international bidders, and the winner was from Mexico so I just wrote to buyer that if they were ok with the additional shipping (since I'd only quoted US rates) that I would be glad to ship/and if not that was OK I would gladly release him from the sale understanding that he may have only bid calculating the total given in the post, and fortunately, everything worked out and I've tried to word my future posts much better to clarify ship costs after that...

so again, we'll see = it was still weird how it all happened "in 3's" (sounding superstitious now) but it's all good in the end...

Isn't there a way you can block international people from bidding at all if you don't ship internationally?
That's just plain laziness on the seller's part >.<

I'm hearing this about dresses (people-dresses, not pony ones!) and all sorts.. It's ridiculous! Putting things up for auction is always a gamble.. If they're not willing to take the risk they shouldn't be wasting everyone's time!!

Isn't there a way you can block international people from bidding at all if you don't ship internationally?

Sure, it's no problem. Just one click, and there you go. But I understand that as a new seller, it can all be a little overwhelming, and you tend to forget things. I hope she's learned her lesson now.
