What was your first pony?

Do you remember which pony was your first? Do you have a fun story behind it?
Was it a childhood pony or did you start your collection with one you always wanted?

:blue::bangles::skydancer::MAD:

Mine was Masquerade! I don't remember getting her but I was told I got her for my 3rd birthday. I still have her, and recently had to clean out SO MUCH MOLD because she joined a lot of baths when I was little!

Fun question!

As a kid I had several g3s. 3 different Toola Roolas (two of the original purple release, one core 7, who was my favorite :3), an applejack, and a 3.5 Pinkie Pie! I never remembered getting them. I think that they may have been given to me by the daycare program I went to, but I was so young I don’t remember. I definitely got them used. I learned how to braid hair on them when I was around 6, but when I was around 8 or so I was like “ :hmph: I’m soooo grown out of ponies” And they stayed in a box for years.

Then in 2022 or so I was cleaning out my closet and found them, and decided to clean them up. I didn’t know much about pre g4 ponies at the time (I was a “brony” when I was a teenager but never looked into older gens) I didn’t even know their names, but I thought they were cool and nostalgic so I put them on my shelf. Then, fate made it so about 2 weeks later I went to a really obscure little toyshop with a vintage toy section and I saw my first ever g1 pony: A Hippity Hop with perfect flocking for 5 dollars. I panicked because “wait that looks like a really old My Little Pony…is that Gen 1?” quickly looked up her name on my phone, freaked out and bought her. I fell in love instantly and I couldn’t tell you why, I guess it was cool seeing something vintage and related to a fandom I had really loved. I learned how to properly clean up ponies and just started researching, learning more, buying more… Now I have 191 ponies and counting haha :lolpony::smile: So I credit Hippity Hop with being the first pony to really throw me into the pony collecting fandom

I still have all my childhood ponies! Except for one of the duplicate Toola Roolas… Sharing is caring and since I had two, my bf has one!

I only have a vague memory but I think my first pony was Braided Beauty along with the Brush Me Beautiful Boutique for Christmas when I was very young. I had about 8 G1s that I can remember and am not absolutely positive she was the 1st but am pretty sure she was.

I no longer have my childhood ponies so as far as collecting as an adult, my first were the Wave 1 G4 Mane 6. I got all 6 at the same time.

Yes! My first pony was GLORY! I was probably 4 when I got her. She has always been my very favorite, and she has traveled with me throughout my life.

As you can see, she is well-loved. When I was little I used to think it was funny to swing her around by the tail until she popped off and went flying across the room. I kept her tail for a long time but eventually lost it, however I somehow do still have the little metal clamp that held it in, I have no idea how I kept track of that for 40 years!

Her blue streak fell out eventually, maybe I brushed it too much? And her stars wore off but never fear, if you look close you can see where little-kid-me drew them back in pen. :D She will always be my fav:ponylove:

I don't remember who my first pony was, but I have vivid memories from childhood of having two of the Rice Krispies Baby Stockings and playing with them in my Nana's yard. I also remember having the movie version of Firefly that came with a VHS tape of Rescue at Midnight Castle. Firefly was my favorite, I thought she was so cool! I have a vivid flash of Surprise in my childhood closet-- I called her Balloons. I also have a photo of myself on Santa's Lap holding TAF Buttons, and my cousin Hillary gave me Starglow!

Wow I am jealous of your $5 Hippity-Hop! :ponylove: What a great start to your G1 collection.

Ponies like this are great because you can tell they are super well loved :redheart: :redheart: :redheart:

My first pony was Blossom when I was 3 but I don’t remember receiving her. I had a childhood collection of 20, but the only pony I actually remember picking out in the store and opening was Paradise. I would’ve been 6 or 7 when I got her.

Editing to add a picture of my childhood herd…

My first MLP was Baby Brightbow :) My sister got Baby Sunribbon. My sister and I used to play with our ponies and my dinosaur toys together. I made her belly laugh a lot with my goofy dinosaur-pony interactions. It's a memory I cherish about her and I when we were very young. :)

My sister and I had a small herd of MLPs, fakie CPK ponies, and a few Barbie horses too. Rosy Love and Mainsail were the parents of the Rainbow Babies and the Baby Ballerina ponies, as well as the Teeny Tiny Newborn Whiskers. Later on I got Twinkle Eye Masquerade at a swap meet at our elementary school--I was sure she wasn't a real MLP because she had twinkle eyes! I'm so glad my classmate gave her to me, as she is still a treasured part of my collection. One of the coolest G1s I have is Brightglow--warm colored ponies--pink, orange and yellow--are my faves.

I always wanted TAF Buttons! :) Here's a childhood drawing of her from me. :)

My G1 pony herd is now at nearly 60 ponies, as of last count. G3s were something I collected in high school, after I learned how to customize them from an artist friend.

I'm glad to have met so many pony friends here online. I wrote about being a part of a "Pony Club" as a little kid in an early diary and I think little me would be proud to be a part of one at last. :ponylove:

my childhood memories are extremely hazy but i think it was G3 cotton candy along with her cafe. playing with her at my dad's house is one of the few things i can remember from that time, so maybe i'm conflating her with being my first pony cause it's all i can recall, but i consider her my first either way. still have her too.

I don't remember it, but it might be Trickles. At least she is the first one I didn't get with her card. I didn't know her name and called her Silbertröpfchen (silver droplet). I later borrowed a quartets game from a friend to learn her name. I gave it back and forgot the name. Borrowed the game again, gave it back and forgot her name :lolpony: Maybe I always forgot it because it doesn't fit her in german. She is called Hoppel which would translate to (Bunny) Hop. I still call her by my name.

My first ponies were from year 2. So, 1983-84. I was born in '83. I know Medley is one of my oldest, and likey the first. I think Moondancer was #2?

But I also had all three sea ponies from that year and I don't know what order they came in

Edit: Childhood Medley. She's in very poor condition because I was a baby. I'm think I'm going to UV box her this weekend and start working on her.

I am pretty sure my first pony was Moondancer with this Moonlight Celebration set :) I still have her and all the pieces. The stereo still plays music even though it's quite distorted haha.
I got her for my birthday as a kid and she means a lot to me!
Oh my goodness Moondancer was my first pony too! A kindred spirit :ponylove: I'd seen ponies before but had no interest in them because they weren't realistic enough, but after I saw a commercial for the Cotton Candy Cafe playset I decided that I needed them. Moondancer was my favorite color so she got the honor of being my introduction into the world of ponies.

I had two first ponies - G2 Morning Glory and Clever Clover! I still have both of them, plus their accessories. I cut out the back cards for them as well, but those have sadly been lost.

I was only partially aware of G1 thanks to the cartoon show, but it was one of the least popular generations that got me into the My Little Pony toyline overall.

Oh my goodness, poor Medley’s ear! You must have thought she was delicious.:ponylove: I’m sure she is proud to have been by your side all these years.
