We don't get Halloween around these parts. Instead, kids go around asking for sweet stuff (hah) on All Saints' morning, the day right after. Our "Dress-up! Go outside! Have fun! Mischief and tomfoolery for all!" celebration is actually Carnival, for which I
did dress up quite a few years. So I guess I'll share those then!
Note: Keep in mind when I say Carnival, I don't mean huge parades and skimpy outfits and samba. That's Brazil's Carnival, who over the years preempted the holiday for themselves- [REDACTED] -and does anyone even remember Venice? Seriously, those masks take real craftsmanship! I mean, globalization is- [REDACTED] -next thing you know, we'll all be wearing sandals with socks! The samurai did it, so it
must be cool, right? Wait, what was I talking about? *looks around*
...
Oh.
Oh, um...
UhhhhhhhhMy costumes!! *waves hands* Yaaaaaaay!
Age 2 - Black & red Pierrot
Age 3 - Fairy Queen (the outfit had a crown)
Age 4 - Pink bunny / A ballerina
Age 5 - Pink bunny
Age 6 - Pink bunny (can you tell I liked this one?) / Little Red Riding Hood
Age 7 - Sleeping Beauty
Age 8 - A Bee / Sailor Moon
Age 9 - A Gypsy
Age 10 - Cleopatra
Age 11 - Mulan
Age 12 - Misty from Pokémon
Fun fact 1:
The reason some years have 2 costumes to them is because I usually had a costume for the parade (and the Bee and Mulan costumes were actually IN the parade), held the Sunday before Carnival, and one for Carnival Day proper.
Fun fact 2:
A few of these I had to check in an unlikely source; a notebook filled with drawings from when I was 9 years old, dated 1997. As a kid I loved documenting the passage of time. Anything from daily routines, to the changing seasons, to stuff like this. I was a chronicler in the making, looks like.
As an adult, the only times I dressed up for Carnival was when I first wore my Edward Elric and Silver (Pokémon Gold/Silver) cosplays for a photoshoot event in Lisbon. The event organizers chose Carnival specifically so that beginners can get used to wearing cosplay in public, since quite a few people on the street are going to be dressed up anyway.
Aaaaaand I'm sorry, you have a topic about Halloween and here I am rambling on and on about a completely different (albeit with a few similar elements) holiday. Carry on! ^^;;
P.S.: And seriously, just joking about Brazil.
