When I get to talking about my collection to other non collector friends, the question always comes up,

"what the most you've spent on one pony?"

And I think that's the wrong question to ask! A better questions is "what's the most you've spend at one time on ponies??"

Why? A lot of people buy lots of ponies, or find a collector selling a pile of ponies they want, and there goes about $50+ dollars. And that's more interesting than one pony! What's one when you can buy boxes of one? And! You get to talk about more than one pony that you bought! Does anyone else think this?

So my answer is, a collector about 8 years ago was selling off her collection and I spend quite a bit on 4 MOC's (two greeks, baby racer, Italian Surprise), German Princess Tiffany, German Skydancer, NBBE baby heartthrob, and a few others I've forgotten. Now, you can guess how much fun that box was to open!

(oh and the most I've spend on one pony? Sweet Scoops with Charm and necklace - and I've forgotten how much it was)

The most I've spent on a lot was a huge lot of 80 some G1+G3 ponies and accessories for $180. The most I've spent on a single pony was Anchors Away which I spent $30 on. I'm usually pretty cheap when it comes to ponies and these were totally spur of the moment buys.

I usually try to buy big lots and they are usually around 100-150$ and I think the most I ever spent was just over $200 but I don't remember exactly. The most I ever spent on a single pony was my mint TAF Baby Dancing Butterflies who was about $80. I totally agree with you @Sky Rocket that I would rather spend that much on a lot and get a whole box of ponies than on just one but every now and then I splurge and buy one of my grails.

I have never bought a lot (yet), because rerely some one is selling lots in Europe (or I haven't seen or wanted them), and outside Europe shipping cost, customs etc. lots are too expensive in my opinion.
But I have spent quite a bit buying sametime multiple ponies one by one by the same seller. I did get (too) excided about their low prices and some good ponies and I just bought bought bought the realized that I have bought over 10 ponies and it did cost a lot (I do not want to remember the sum for my own sanity's sake ;D).

At the most at once, I've dropped $50+ on a huge lot of ponies on eBay, when I was in dire need of restocked bait supply.

That's about it, I think Dx Never spent over $30.00 on one pony. I usually try to stay under $20.00 for budget if ordering a G1 for my bait supply.

Me being cheap with bait budgets also prevents the risk of HTF G1's getting customized too, lol~

Hmmm,I never bought lots of ponies, but I went lucky and bought a lot for 7.50. Thats about it

The most for a pony? 10 bucks lol

The most I've spent at one time on the ponies themselves was around $100. That was for 13 G4s with shipping, four of them mint in box from Amazon. Then the shipping cost me another $100 ($45 of which got refunded, so it was actually only $55), and customs another $50. So in total it was just over $200. That was for my birthday this year. I also recently bought a lot of G1 ponies, $50 for 12, which I collected personally.

The most I've spent on one pony was $35 for G4 Star Swirl (but I also got Rarity and a few small accessories for free), and then I paid shipping on top of that (all of which was part of the aforementioned $100 in pony purchases). It seems like a lot, but $35 is about what I'd have paid for the set at the store had I bought it locally. I don't think I'd pay more than $40-50 on any single pony, and I'd only pay that if it was a particularly rare grail. I try to pay under $10 for single ponies ($4-5 is ideal) because I have to still pay for international shipping.

To date, the most I've spent on ponies at one time has been $45.

As for a single pony...store price? I'm still so new to collecting that I have my eyes on the big lots rather than single ponies right now, so I will pay regular price for the current g4 girls but really haven't purchased a solo older gen yet.

I pride myself on being a thrifty cheap date, but I'm embarassed to say I've spent $85.00 on several ponies in one sitting. The big chunk of it went to Baby sugarberry. I couldn't help it...I just had to have her...

and then I spent $50.00 on a baity Nightglider, not knowing how much she was worth at the time...then I realized I could get a mint one for the same price. Ugh. I still kick myself for that one.

Hmm... I've spent over $100 US on brand new Ponies at the store, Toys R Us. I've probably dropped 70 to 80 on lots. I don't like to spend a good deal on a single Pony, just because my finances dictate I be frugal. I'd rather have lots of Ponies rather than a few certain ones. Other people feel different.

As collectors we all have our limits, I guess!

I've dropped 50 bucks on just one pony. And then I bought her accessories so it's more like 60 dollars.

I don't tend to buy big lots anymore because my regular collection is so close to being finished, but I'd guess I've never spent more than $50 on a lot (minus shipping). It helps that most of my ponies came from garage sales back in the 90's when they never cost more than a quarter each.

OH OH OH! No, I take it back, the most I ever remember spending on a lot was about $40, and it had the nursery and accessories, about 25 ponies, some pony wear, and a porcelain scene(with its tag!). But that was back in high school and I think my mother paid for it. Oh god, those ponies were so mint they still had "new pony" smell. ::drool::

As for most expensive single pony, Rapunzel. I have Sweet Scoops and her charm but I bought them separately and I still don't think they together equaled what Punzie cost on her own. After Punzie is Spain Milky Way, one of the gems of my collection, and not by all that much!

the most I ever spent on a single pony was Deidara I don't remember how much exactly but it was a lot. Worth it though considering how his cloak eyepatch and teeth and tongue were handsculpted and painted and so much work was put into him. He's one of the jewels of my collection.

I'm sure I've spent a bit on a pony lot but nothing comes to mind, maybe at most $50. I do know which pony I've spent the most on, my Greek Medley (Melody??) I dropped $150 USD on her on eBay quite a few years back and do not regret it for one second. Not only was the pony minty as can be (her tail was still twisted like she was just remove from her packaging, she had her brush and ribbon) she is my favorite color combo of yellow/blue/green pony. If I was forced to get rid of all of my collection save one, she would probably be the one I keep. She's so pretty!

I don't tend to get big lots of ponies. Here in the UK, the ones i have found on ebay or pre-loved/Gumtree (basically a UK Craigs List) have been a whole lotta fakies with a few baity real ponies sprinkled on top. I would love to find a box of G1's like when i first started collecting and my fella's brother did a house clearance and came to me with a box of 17 G1's and accessories for £30!!

The most I have spent on a single pony? My Macau Jenny (profile pic) was about £30, my Vennie squeaky butt Blossom was about £35, Baby Cherry Jubilee was a bit of a steal at £25. I think my limit is about £30-£40 about now :)

I will probably be one of those opposites that would rather get one expensive pony than fill out with big lots! :)
But for now, I try to limit the budget, money seems to be slipping away quickly even if you do not spend too much on each pony. So I try to get the cheaper ones first, but keep an eye out for good deals on more expensive ponies or accessories. I did get lucky and got one of my pretties for about 25$ that I think is valued 2-3 times more.

Maybe it would be easier to stick to just one expensive pony (or accessory) or purchase per month and nothing more? Rather than - just a few, not too expensive! Which is a more diffuse limit. ;)
Atleast with the one pony/purchase I would know exactly how much of the monthly budget is being robbed! And I would try even harder to find the complete sets if I want accessories aswell, so I do not have to get single accessories later.

I did get a whole lot of ponies on impulse that was rather pricy. Ended up only wanting to keep a couple of them (of 21) and crossing the line of having more ponies to sell/trade away than in my own collection! also crushing that months MLP budget by miles. (Do not know how much it translates to in $ and I am too embarresed to use a converter! *lol* )
Would think that the lots are the most dangerous for me. Since I could end up spending tons of money and not getting much I want to keep anyway. Sure, I could end up on the plus side if the ponies are valuable, but since I am not that experienced yet (and since not all traders are serious and picky with descriptions) it feels like a gamble in combination with a lot of work.
I would however buy an entire lot if there are atleast two or more ponies from my (not too big) wishlist included, you know - "must-haves" and atleast one or a few more that I like and would consider to add to the collection. And the lot would have to cost a max of the value of those ponies that I want.

Clear limits = good for the wallet. But I guess you learn better by making mistakes! :)

For a single pony? Around $130ish but I dont remember who it was for - either Spanish Piggy bluebell or MOC greek sunlight. Argi Truly is up there too.

On a lot? I think about $100. I was a bit drunk and aparently I REALLY wanted Edgar the elephant.
On a side note, I once bid on a lot of various pinkie pies, also while drunk. Said lot is now in a box on the porch. o_O
