What's your ponies "stable" situation?

So where are your ponies at, and do you like them there?
Sadly my ponies are taking up my desk that I always use which = don't use my desk anymore. I really need more space for them, like shelves.

Anybody have any good advice for shelving? How do you organize them, favorites to non-favorites? Are your ponies kept in boxes? Just interested in what kind of place they are in.

I keep my ponies on a shelf.

Because I only collect G4 ponies. My order is "Mane Six + Other ponies that have appeared in the show" in front. Recolour ponies in the back.

I have a glass cabinet, and I have them in rows on the glass shelves. No particular order, because I take them out and rearrange them when I'm bored.

Due to space, most of my collection is stored in boxes. I do have a couple small display cases in my ponyroom (which is also our guestroom) and will get a few more displays in the spring hopefully. :) I have so many ponies I prefer them being behind glass to cut down on dust, I'd never have time to dust them all!

Tips-
I love second hand furniture, you can buy second hand shelves/china cabinets/bookcases and customize them... Never place ponies on painted surfaces though, it can stain hooves, or even flake off and get stuck to hooves. If a unit doesn't have glass shelves already there are glass shops can cut glass to go over each shelf so your ponies are on glass and not directly on a painted surface, or cover painted shelves with fabric. :)

New furniture I highly recommend Ikea. They seem to have something for every budget, from huge glass cabinet systems with lights all the way to small inexpensive open shelves. The shelves I have are ikea billy bookcases with glass doors attached.

I have my ponies in three different shelves. Two are glass cases because I love to keep out the dirt that way. The other shelf has a bunch of plastic wrap on it and tape at the sides to keep the dust away. I do rearrange them too when I feel the need to. Though lately ive been too busy to do that.

I have a couple SMALL shelves and a small bookcase - right now the only ponies I have displayed are G3s and G4s. I use 3M wall sticky hooks to display all my MIB ponies... sadly, my pride and joy, my awesome G1 collection is all stored in tupperware bins... each pony is bagged in a ziploc (not sealed), and placed upright. If I have double layers in the bins, I use super heavy duty commercial type "bubble-wrap" the kind that doesn't ever pop. Always putting unicorns on the top row...

My dream display cases I will have to build myself, and my ponies will have to move to a larger room in the house... so it may be a while. But they've been in storage for over 10 years now, and I haven't had any issues with condition going downhill or anything :)

I have 3 shelves, and all my 150+ ponies are on display :D One shelf is for my special g1 ponies and g1 variants, then the largest shelf is a bookshelf with g1's in the top, g1's and g2's in the middle, and g3 and g3.5 at the bottom with my 3 Fashion size G4's, then I have a seperate shelf for the smaller ponies, which are all my g4's, g3 babies, blind bag ponies, and mcdonalds ponies. But I am running out of room! D;

I have Detolf glass cabinets from IKEA, I collect alot more stuff than just ponies and the hubby collects stuff as well. At the moment we have 34 of the glass cabinets in the house and we will be getting 4 more fairly soon.

I keep mine on a shelf with wheels but I'd really like a shelf with glass doors.

Most of my ponies are stored in boxed due to lack of space.

I have 4 shelves for different ponies: 1 for the childhoods, 1 for the customs, 1 for g4 & one for Nirvanas. I wish i had more display room, hopefully when i get my new appartement :)

My ponies are pretty much scattered all over my room, like I've always had my toys. :p I do have a shelf just for ponies, but it's not big enough for all of them. I wanted to get square box-type shelves and put in transparent acrylic doors, so I don't have to worry about dust getting on them, but I have no idea when I'll be able to do that.

By the way, are painted surfaces that big of an issue? About 90% of the available surfaces in my room are painted, so it's not like I have much of a choice, plus I haven't really had any trouble in the 10+ months I've been actively collecting.

Mine are in the Pony Room, on shelves with risers, grouped by set and ROUGHLY by year (but really more by who fits where).

Variants are mostly in the closet, away from sunlight.

I'm sure not all painted surfaces pose a problem. My mom painted a second hand dresser for me as a child, and my ponies lived happily on top. (she used an oil base). Fresh paint should be left to cure and set before placing ponies on top, and I suspect Latex paints can be an issue as they remain flexible, where an oil will form a hard shell.

But collectors have had problems with such surfaces in the past, or placing ponies on felt/fabrics that are brightly coloured and having the dye transfer and stain the hooves. If you notice no problems thus far you should be fine. For those with rare/expensive ponies it's usually wise to err on the side of caution anyway. :)

My ponies have part of a closet in my sewing room. They really need all of the closet. I have the G4s except for one Fluttershy packed up in boxes on one side. Most of my collection is displayed on this cube shelf I got at a home improvement store. The company makes lots of different pieces that you can buy and build up together. The G3s and 3.5s of which I have only a handful are on a three tier cubby that attaches to the big shelf. Then I have more ponies in two of the old G1 carrying cases that are stacked up ontop of that. The other side of the top of the big shelf has my Dream Castle with ponies in it. And then I have the big twelve pony carrying case sitting on the side of the closet. I have humidity absorbing crystals that go in a container that I change from time to time too.

Sadly mine too, although you can find ponies all around my house. Not kidding. A few in the bathroom waiting for a cleaning, current customs near the TV viewing area, on shelves around my house and my room, and even in an unused bedroom, one is sunning to get rid of spots. I even have a new set still in my car in the target bag. Everywhere one turns there is a hint of ponies.

Mine used to be displayed on 4 of the 6 foot tall bookshelves with adjustable shelf heights. I was able to set up playsets and everything. Until the G3s came out, everthing fit. It went downhill after that. I'm not really a dust fanatic so I dont use enclosed cases

Probably one of the best displays I ever saw for pony storage was a custom shelving system. Shelves were made of clear acrylic and a 2 story wall was filled, spaced just far enough to fit ponies. Each shelf held 12 ponies if they faced forward - so it could hold either 2 or 3 complete sets. If the set was incomplete, the ponies could be turned sideways to fill the shelf. The playsets and bigger items were stored elsewhere in the room.

I just have them on a shelf. I need to get another one soon though, I'm running out of space. :surprise:
