When you only need the HTF and Rarer Ponies

I'm getting close to being at that stage too and to make it worse I'm an accessory nut so I'm after original ribbons, puffy stickers the lot to complete my ponies. I've upgraded most of mine to NM that I need to as well now

I keep an eye on Ebay for bargains which are out there whilst not as good as thrift store finds are better than nothing I've gotten mint year 3 seas ponies for $10 and some HTF ponies in cheap lots etc. When nothing I need pops up for awhile I get out my accessory spreadhsheet and buy some combs or brushes, stickers or whatever I need to complete some of my ponies :)

Otherwise I've been lucky some pony pals have let me pay off more expensive ponies
 
I'm not quite to that point yet, but I'm at the point where I can no longer really benefit from lots, as I usually have more than half of them, which sortof defeats the purpose a bit. I can't go fairs or meets simply because there are none near me, so excess ponies sit in a bag and stay there until someone someday wants them! Sometimes I'll luck out and get a good lot, or a whole bunch from one seller I don't have, but it's not all that often anymore!
 
I'm not quite there yet, but I am in the moderate price and up category. I think that's why for the moment I have shifted my buying focus to G3's and G4's. They are still cheap! lol. I've wanted to get more G2's as well, but most of the ones on my wishlist are on the pricier side for that generation as well. :cry2:
 
The G2s I'm looking for are on the expensive side now :( Theyre mainly the UK releases.. It took me nearly 9 months to find Baby Swirly.
 
I've had a couple of ideas for custom sets, but as I am SO not a crafter I have never been able to do them. I have been talking to Glitch here so might actually get them made, which will be a change for me! I don't have any customs in my collection at all.. Got a good imagination though and can dream it even if I can't do it!
When I do find a Pony that I need, (Like So Soft Satin and Lace currently on Ebay!!!) the price is way too high for me at this stage... No fair! *pouts*

I am an accessory nut as well, lately have been going through my sets to find what I have and need, (the need list majorly outweighs the have list!!!) and am still focusing on playset restoration. That is a pain too though as my toughest ones are the Paradise Estate small stuff, the HSH and Megan's Place, so again, rare and HTF. Not having much luck here...

I did get a fluke though, bought an accessory lot on Ebay and it contained Baby Bowtie's stroller and almost the entire Gymkana set... (Even if I didn't know what the gymkana set was at the time lol)

I'm really fussy, I only have one of each pony on display so there are no double ups in my collection, (with a couple of exceptions, childhood ponies stay!!!) and I keep my internationals and Nirvanas separate on a different shelf... I still have about 400 out so it is getting harder and harder to find new ones! Only collect G1 too as that is the gen that means the most to me, it's what I played with as a child so that's the gen I have the memories with!

I am helping an awesome guy catalogue his daughter's collection, (he found it in the attic when they moved house) and sell it off, so that is testing my knowledge and I am really quite enjoying it! He has some great stuff including a Paradise Estate, he sends me pics and so far I haven't had to look any up to identify, been able to do it from the top of my head so am rather proud of that! :LOL:

There is very little opportunity for thrift store finds in NZ, but occasionally I find a good score at the odd Garage sale... (and I mean VERY occasionally!!!) I am just HOPING my brother in Canada (until September!!!) will be able to find some thrift store bargains for me... Anyone know any good stores he can hit in Toronto???!!! I wanna find me some new ponies!!!
 
well, I am in that position myself. I just need more harder to find ponies or rare. I don't feel its easy but I like a challenge. I have about 31 or 32 Us release ponies left to get. I also have about 43 mail orders left. I really love the thrill of the pony hunt. I think that will keep me busy for sometime.
There are other generations that I do collect for the most part my main focus is on G1s. I also don't have a pony room but I got a pony "area". where if not all but most of my G1s hang out.
I haven't been able to collect any ponies recently. I been a bit bummed at that. Hopefully things will pick up for me maybe summer or fall I don't know.
I know sometime over time people may get picker about their collections. However I am happy if I just find a pony that I need that does not have cancer or regind. I try not to be too fussy because life is short. :smilepony:
 
I have decided to try to complete my Original Birthflower set at the moment, there seem to be quite a few of them around at decent prices so I'd better take advantage of that... Would still like the Australian variants, (Especially August, my birth month!!!) but they are so madly expensive. Really frustrating as Australia is so close by and most of the ponies I find nowadays are from much further away!!!
 
Im so sad ..and jealous

I sold all my ponies except a few of mine from childhood in 2000 when I needed money for a new baby and ebay prices were in outerspace! Then just when I started to get a small collection going again, I had to sell them off again for other financial reasons. Now Im done having kids and life seems pretty stable so I want to start again, but sadly I have less than 20 ponies and only about 6 are in really good condition. I am looking to buy but I dont have a goal to own evey pony ever made...just all of my favorite sets...there i go babbling, sorry. if anyone feels bad for there not having anything to buy...just remember me....*sniff*

Sorry I just cant seem to figure out how to delete the second one! Maybe its because Ive been up all night....

The first time I collected, I was only missing 13 of the US ponies (mail orders included). The UK ponies and Germany missing were around the same number.

I sort of gave up because it was getting more expensive to get the ponies at that point. I was getting them off Yahoo Auctions for a super cheap price and locally.
