I'm just curious who's been collecting ponies a long time. I have been since 1999 (I was 16). You'd never know it by my post count but I've been aware of the trading post and the arena for as long as they've been around.

There's an awful lot of familiar names that I never see anymore. The website where I bought my first pony online hasn't been up for years. :( Where did everyone go?

About a year or so ago I contacted someone selling a HUGE collection on Craigslist. She turned out to be a collector that had been around for YEARS and I totally knew who she was when she told me her online name.

This is not an insult to new collectors, I'm just trying to track down all the old familiar "faces". Where is everyone going?

I've been around the boards since *edit* it looks like 2005 is when I actually joined. I actually collected as a child and was sad when I could no longer go down to the store and see G1s on the shelves. Then my husband introduced to me eBay and it wasn't long after that I found this place. But a lot of collectors have sold their collections and moved on :( .

Well, I'm not a pony oldie moldie, but I *am* a tad older than most everyone here *and* my maiden name got me the nickname of "Moldie" (have somebody shout *that* across a parking lot at you... :stitch_h4h:). So I guess that makes me an Oldie Moldie if not exactly one of the ones you're looking for ("found" Pony in 2008, here).

*raises hand* I am. I've been around since the early days of the board, although my attendance dropped off in college a bit. I've been collecting since I was a kid in the 80s so I'm an oldie, but I'm certainly not MOLDIE! :p

Same here, Far Dreamer. I was hunting ponies before the TP and Arena existed! Some of the old members are still around but a lot of them aren't very active anymore or have changed names and I can't keep track of them. I think Gypsy is Debbie Birge, if you remember her. She was one of the first to publish a pony guide book, which I still have!
The Delaneys are around but they are selling now, not collecting.
Anyone in particular you were remembering?

I've been collecting since 1996, But only found this site in 2010

I think I have been around since 2000 ish? At least at the arena.

I was part of the online pony community back when we mainly chatted through newsboards and email lists - back in the mid to late nineties. I've only been here at the MLPTP for a short while though. My pony name has always been Prairie Lily. I ran one of the early MLP websites and ran the occasional contest. :)

I'm with Tiki, on the board since before 2000. Internet was a wonderful thing back then. :)

I go back to 2007. Don't know if that is old. I'm probably middle age. lol

I had a huge collection when I was a kid (early to mid 80s)... hundreds of ponies... I sold them all at a yard sale when I was going through my *growing up* phase. (I kept my barbies and fashion star fillies).

started collecting again on '03? when G3s started popping up (found kimono at hot topic, and drowned in nostalgia). joined the TP a little over a year or so ago after lurking for a few months :)

My first ponies were Moondancer and Firefly. My mom bought them for me new and she allowed me to have two because I couldn't really decide which 'one' I wanted so she told me to pick two; at least that's the way I remember it. I have a feeling I was probably just standing there staring at the beautiful unicorns and pegasus and I'm positive my thought was I must have them all.

I'm making the assumption that I started collecting in 1983 but I guess it depends on when Moondancer and Firefly were officially first in stores.

I don't remember being interested in the original ponies (blue Belle, Butterscotch, etc.) or taking notice of them and I'm assuming again that they were released in 1982 - the Uni's and Pegs is what got me started. But all of this would be based on what was actually out when. I just know when I first saw the Uni and Peg that was when I got them so they must have just been released.

I've been a faithful collector since Moondancer and Firefly, so that puts me at 29 years.

edit: I think I've been in the online pony collecting community since 1996/7.

I joined in like 2000. I have been pretty steady posting on the three different boards I have seen here! LOL! I don't post or collect like I used to...but I still do! :)

I think it was around 1998 or '99 that I started on the TP. I was off and on over the next several years. '98 was when my hard core collecting began, but I've been gathering ponies since 1985! I still have all my original ponies with 99% of their original accessories. :cheshire:
