Sorry if I am being foolish, but I saw this new children's clothing on Best & Less and I'm drawing a blank on who this pony is...

Looks more G3. Can not find there, either, suspect someone took a fakie photo for real MLP and used it for reference)

If it is official merch, that is.

It is indeed official merch, Best & Less is a reputable Australian clothing store that wouldn't sell fake stuff

I guess the designers of the top didn't put a lot of thought into the character and practically made one up from pre-existing characters haha

I’ve actually been seeing this for about the past 10 years with the retro merch. It’s 5 AM and I’m still awake with insomnia so I’m not able to take any pictures right now, but I do have several pieces of merchandise where they took rainbow ponies or others and just went really crazy with the color scheme.

Thats G1 Sugarberry just with a truncated cutie mark instead of it all over, and that’s happened before with an Australian line. I know they’ve definitely used Sugarberry before. I’m having trouble finding the brand right now but I did find a picture of a blogger wearing it. She attributed to an brand that had the license that does mostly underwear and I’m not sure about linking that here. But if you search my little pony jean vest and go to images on Google, you’ll see what I’m talking about as you scroll down. Some of the Australian members of the community have this as well and have rocked it before I know. It says Pony Crew on it and also has TAF Sweetooth and Love Melody I believe

I reckon yes, they recycled art then gave it the colours they wanted for the merchandise, and that is Strawberry Surprise with a dye job.

I don't think it's Sugarberry - not enough strawberries. Because it's not the line art that is being eliminated but the colouring.

The designers of merch are told to make something that is cute and is pink and white. Many of them may not realise that the colouring of a pony identifies it -- and they think people will still buy the merch just because it's that distinctive MLP early line-art, and not take into consideration that they invented a new character essentially.

you would have to find the original art to correctly ID the pony that the original illustrator was portraying.

Here we go. It’s the same vector and the same strawberries, so someone just went to town on it. XD we can always name her, I suppose!
