I normally take all my ponies out of the boxes unless they're vinyl collectables or rare ones or if the packaging looks really good in some cases. XD It's more of a space issue, since I have this little shelf and 350 ponies to cram onto it, so I just take them out.

New ponies- I take right out of the box (for the most part) - I just don't have the room.

G1 and G2 ponies- I try to leave in the box. I HAVE taken MOC vintage toys out of their cards/boxes in the past- but I try to keep the packaging as intact as possible. There is nothing more scrumptious than an absolutely crispy factory new- vintage toy.

I have however managed to resist with the solitary G1 pony that I have... (although I consider it from time to time)

I'm a free-er mostly. I have a bunch of G4s in their boxes but that's more from apathy and ease of organization than anything. I've freed G1s before and I'd do it again but I do understand the plight of boxed collectors. I just know in my experience the ponies do/can get damaged from being on the cards. And there's just something innately sad to me about a pony having spent its entire existence in a box. I don't make a habit out of buying MOC G1s to free since it's expensive and also, it's better to let the MOC collectors have them but I prefer them free.

Personally I don't take things out of their boxes. If I end up with something still in its box I usually sell it and then use the money to buy a couple loose ponies. Or in the case of G1's I'll keep them in their packaging even if I keep them.

I'd definitely open a boxed pony. I don't know if I'd ever buy a MOC G1 just because I don't want to pay that much just for box. But if I got one at yard sale or something, I'd definitely pop 'em open.

I would never ever ever open an MOC/MIB G1. They are very rare and HTF these days and I feel they should be preserved. Now, if the box and/or pony were badly damaged then I would consider de-boxing.

The other generations I wouldn't care about leaving MIB since they are much easier to come by (except maybe the G2's).
