There are three rune factory games on the Nintendo Ds, Rune factory a fantasy harvest moon, released on August 14, 2007 in north america, nearly a full year after it's initial release in Japan in 2006. it was moderately popular amongst fans of the harvest moon series.
Rune factory 1 was given a direct sequel called Rune Factory Frontier, it was released on the Nintendo wii on March 17, 2009 in north America and supported motion controls it was also the fist console version of the game.
Then we moved on to the indirect sequel on the DS called rune factory 2 a fantasy harvest moon, it was released on November 18, 2008 in north America, it was the very first runefactory game that I ever played.
My dad purchased it for me when I was 10, because he thought it was a harvest moon game, to my delight I got not only a farming sim, but also an entire jrpg full of monster's to tame, dungeons to beat, and girls to woo, (there's no female option in the beginning of the game due to the story)

In this game you play as both a boy and a girl trapped in the boys body
You ride around on the back of a giant and explore the vast ocean world visiting little dungeon islands along the way!

which is where I first played it, and fell in love with the franchise all over again.
Fun fact this is the first game in the series that allowed players to pick between a male, or female, character at the start of the game!
