The Sparkler variant with the two-toned tail is really different because look at the mane! The red streak is further down than the one with just the purple tail. And the boxes are different. Love it!

Basic Fun have probably realised that variants and finding them can be part of the fun of collecting so made some more. Also, I guess if they can’t add any new ponies just yet, they could create a few variants. And money, they get more money.

I don’t think I expected Basic Fun to do something like this. Pretty interesting

To anyone who has the older (35th anniversasry) BF still in packages, how's the color holding up? Got photos of those whos colors warped? I find it odd how fast the colors changed.

I saw someone mentioned one of theirs changed colors. I saw a MIB rainbow collection with Starshine having a discolored head at an antique store- I didn't buy it (also overpriced).

@Mario_Gusty Guys I'd like to mention, that particularly (my) Gusty, her body turned yellow/cream compared to her head. And she was in her box. Just wanted to let you know, so check yours too.
@Mario_Gusty can I see a photo of what she looks like now? When did you purchase her?

I'm wondering if its common to have color changes over time? If so, I really don't want to buy them. It would be great to have a list like we do with the G3 distingerating hair so we can be warned of potential color damages over time? Is it only the ponies with white bodies that would yellow?

I’m going to check mine now, but we’ve noticed over the decades that ponies that originally came with a scent and white ponies are a little bit more prone to color changing, so it might be a combination of those since some of the rainbow retros from the 35th line came with scented bodies.

In reply to @MustBeJewel's post about variants: I have been very curious if there would be variants with the BF ponies, and if they would do some on purpose as a lot of other collector toy lines do. I am also curious as to what else would be considered a variant. For example, I found a darker and lighter version of TE Sweet Stuff, and one that has the darker body but lighter head. I had no idea which one to choose when I was at the store, so I bought all 3 lol. It's probably very hard to see the color differences in the photos - especially through the packaging, but I'd love to know what you think, and everyone else's opinion also. The first photo is of the "darker" Sweet Stuff, the second is the one with the differing head and body colors, and the third is of the "lighter" one. I would call the lighter color more of a dusty blue, whereas the "darker" one seems more saturated. I purchased all 3 ponies at the same Meijer on the same day. Please let me know what you think! (Also, I know these are terrible photos, I'll try to take better ones that more accurately depict the colors soon. The first one turned out decent, but the other 2 are pretty bad!)

If the colors are subtle and not a fun drastic difference I probably wouldn’t not buy all. If the hair was different or the body was obviously different shades then yea.

I’m wondering if those smaller color differences is really fading since it isn’t drastic changes. I noticed the colors change on basic fun even in short time

I have thought about that as well based on what I have heard some others say, but I bought all 3 of them the same day at the same store fairly shortly after they were released. I think they probably just used a slightly different dye mix for at least 1 batch, so I guess they are unintentional variants...

So after a lot of deliberation, I decided to open my repro Fizzy today - I never owned one, so it felt appropriate and well-deserved to be able to touch her and style her.

However, after washing her mane and tail to be able to style her better (don't like factory curls on these repro ponies or the product they add to them from the factory) I noticed whole locks of hair started coming off. Specifically the pink streak of her tail. There doesn't seem to be an issue with the mane or any of the other tail streaks.

Did anyone else have the same problem?

I’m commenting as I would like to know the answer to this question. I have not heard of anyone having trouble yet.

also @Tak if this interests you
do you think the repros could be using the same type of hair as whatever causes g3 disintegrating hair? i think g4s used cheaper hair for the tails than the manes, so its not out of the question that basic fun could have taken a page out of hasbro's book and used cheaper, easily breakable hair for the tails as well. are there any color matches on the g3 page?

That’s why I want to know. I haven’t heard of any disintegration in posey or the previous basic fun releases. I don’t have any open basic fun ponies myself, but was looking into some heart throbs for E in the future. I’ll ask around and see if anyone else has had trouble.

I open them all upon purchase, and I brush them out and handle them and felt happy, and then put them back in the packages for display. I haven’t encountered that, but they haven’t been removed since. And I do take them down to dust the boxes, and I haven’t noticed anything falling off inside except some of the fake puffy stickers in the older releases.

Actually mine seemed totally fine until removed from the box, washed, hair dried, and combed… I was very surprised to see it happen. I read about the disintegrating hair syndrome in G3s but never had this happen to any of my ponies so far, even more so on a new one that was just taken out of the box, so I was taken aback for sure.

After having about 50% of her pink tail streak fall off, I decided to stop touching her and I also put her back into the box which is kinda sad, considering how much I wanted to take her out!

Can you post some pictures? Maybe in a separate thread even. I’m not finding anyone else that has the same problem.

It won't really show in the pics because I threw away the fallen locks and the tail still looks presentable, as TEP's tails have 4 different colored streaks, so the difference won't be super obvious - she still has plenty of hair on her tail. I am starting to feel though that it might've been a reaction of this specific type of pink hair to the hair dryer's heat...

When the hair came out was it the entire strand or pieces of the strands?
Pictures would be greatly helpful with situations like this. Ones that show the plugs and where the hair came from. :)

I cannot believe what they've announced for the 40tjr Anniversary. Look what an arena peep discovered!View attachment 58394View attachment 58395View attachment 58396

The Celestial Swirl Ponies!!!
Wow. Wow. I cannot believe this, they’re now becoming real? I never expected them to go ahead and actually do it! It’s like what I said a while back in the thread if anyone thinks they’d do it but wow. I kind of thought they’d go for a more marbled body pattern though. This is amazing! The myth, the legend, the celestial ponies. They have materialised

Also kind of expected more shine/pearly but hey, prototypes right?
