G5 G5 Chatter

I was just thinking yesterday if they were going to make g5 Equestria Girls dolls.
These look pretty good (they may be handprinted prototypes). I do wish Izzy had a different outfit but the rest is pretty solid
Zipps's face may be my favourite and Sunny's outfit is super cute!
Looks like they may wrist and knee articulation so that's great and it also looks like Pipp may be smaller, so maybe we could get some size differences too.

The main issue I have with these so far is that it looks like they don't have ears? The ears they have are just headbands, so no pony ears but they don't have human ears either so that's a bit odd
It might just be the angle with the ears. Hopefully we’ll get better images soon! Praying for ears so I can give Pipp the fabulous earrings she DESERVES

I actually have soft spot for doll collecting, I just can't justify it more often than I can, and with that being said I'm beyond excited for these :ponylove:I think these are such a massive step up, from more personalized clothes to different sculpts! My only qualm is the lack of Hitch, other than that I adore them.
The dolls come with headbands too, looks like! Watch me wearing them to work and ignoring all requests to be more professional.

Does that mean they’re going to do another Equestria Girls series then? I’m not totally sure why they decided to bring these back, were these popular with the target audience then? Or doll collections?
Also, I don’t believe they have really got Zipp’s hairstyle… correct. But they probably can’t recreate that so kids can brush it

I don’t collect dolls so these aren’t for me. I have found they have good pony counterparts though that come in some sets (Rainbow Rocks ponies)

Now I’m wondering if they plan to release humans with every new gen…

I swear she did have ears originally then stuck with no ears. Doesn’t she have them in Tell Your Tale? If they’re going to use the original animation error(?) as a way to wedge humans into this then I guess they’re taking a mistake and using it?

I would presume they did well enough with their target audience, the G4 EQG's quality just really wasn't there truth be told, so they weren't much of an interest to doll collectors.

I personally believe they they might be trying to compete with MGA and Mattel.
MGA has LOL! OMG! and Rainbow High and Mattel has Barbie, Monster High and now they also have Disney Princesses again.

I think that Equestria Girls is currently the most popular doll line they have so I'm not surprised they they want to continue making more.

I'm a bit surprised that they may come so early but then again Hasbro lost Disney Princesses.

Whilst I am not a fan of EQG or a doll collector, I do think they’ve done well with making each one different and not like the old Disney Princess copy-paste style of faces. To bring it back for a second generation must either show they did something right or try to correct whatever they did last time

They have nice eyes anyway. Kind of wish they stuck to just ponies though… the whole reason I like them, they’re animals

That is a pretty good point. I forgot that happened

I get the distaste for non-pony MLP content, but at the same time I’ve never begrudged Hasbro for wanting to put out a tie-in doll line; designer dolls have been getting more and more popular with the series’ target audience, and from what I understand the original EG, while low-quality, proved equally popular. I’m just happy to see they’re putting more effort into the EG releases, rather than taking the lazy route of just pumping out the same cheap dolls of the first generation line.

And at the very least, I’m glad they coexist harmoniously and Hasbro’s not trying to replace MLP outright. I can fanboy over good releases like this one and then pretend any releases I don’t like don’t exist.

Me too. I don’t have to buy them if I don’t like them, it’s that simple, so it doesn’t totally bother me (only if they actually try to replace the ponies totally but that’ll be a different scenario)
Even if I don’t like something, it’s someone somewhere’s most favourite thing and that’s totally fine. It’s nice to know news like this is really going to make someone’s day, there’s a fan out there who is going to be pretty happy about this and that’s a good thing :flutter2:

I'd have to see them in person but Izzy right now is not doing it for me... she just has the look that I'm not sure if she is about to go off the crazy deep end on me lol

Just gonna say I am nOt a fan of 80% of the new G5 stuff. I’ve given it a chance. The only things I find interesting about it are the comic books and the handful of brushables they’ve made.

The reskinned Equestria Girl dolls are horrid, I’m sorry. This just looks like Hasbro trying to cash in on the LOL Surprise, Rainbow, Monster, Disney, whatever else doll trend with these. It might also be them trying to revive the hype for Equestria Girls too, but I never liked EQG. At all. Thought they were a weird concept back then, still think they’re a weird concept now (outside of fan art of humanized ponies, those are cool).

Like… maybe I’m just an overly loyal G3 fan still hurting from the Gen Change of 2010, but G5 just does not feel anything like MLP. I’m sure that’s been said every time there’s been a gen change, but this one feels especially unlike MLP.

Anyway, I’m gonna go into a huge rant if I keep going lol. G5 is not my favorite gen by a long shot. The comics and classic brushables are good, but that’s about it for me.

Ultimately, MLP is a kids' franchise 1st and foremost, and this generation is there for another generation of children that's different from when we were kids ourselves, as more time passes some of us might naturally have harder time relating to it and find some aspects of it jarring, but ultimately it's a kids franchise doing what kids like and enjoy at the time, and I can't begrudge it for that.

I'd be interested to see a side by side comparison of all the doll generations. I wasn't a fan of the og EQ designs and the reboot dolls weren't out long enough for anyone to really give them a chance.

I think they really shot themselves in the foot by not pushing a more anthro design. In the sea of the colorful dolls options rn actual horse looking dolls would really catch the eye of kids and collectors.
