Lovely work :) Ponies got pampered!

Let's kick this thread off proper with a few ponies I've just completed. These ponies all came from the same lot; some of them only needed a good scrub and style, others weren't so lucky!

unnamed (2).jpg

Starting off with Lemon Drop, who cleaned up perfectly well with a day at the spa and basic hair styling.

Products used: Dawn dish soap, Magic Eraser, Suave Almond and Shea Butter conditioner, and 100% acetone for those tough marks.

unnamed (5).jpg

Here's Beach Ball, not much needed to be done here aside from a good cleanup and styling. Even though her mane is cut, I'm hesitant to re-hair her due to the color changing gimmick with the Sunshine Pony line. I admit the length of her mane kinda grew on me, too!

Products used: Dawn dish soap, Magic Eraser, Suave Almond and Shea Butter conditioner, and 100% acetone for those tough marks.

unnamed (3).jpg

Next up is Moondancer; she needed a good wash, UV chamber brightening, and a cutie mark makeover!

Products used: Dawn dish soap, Magic Eraser, Suave Almond and Shea Butter conditioner, 100% acetone, 40 volume cream peroxide (during UV lightening), acrylic paint, and ultra fine white glitter (I mix white glitter with the color paint needed to avoid stockpiling a million different glitter colors).

unnamed (1).jpg

Here's my first Sweetheart Sister, Fancy Flower! Her poor mane was completely faded and needed some extra TLC to remove those knots/stains. She only needed a day in the UV chamber to lift some of the yellowing throughout. This was also my first re-pinking and I'm proud of how it turned out, it was a lot of fun too!

Products used: Dawn dish soap, Magic Eraser, Suave Almond and Shea Butter conditioner, 100% acetone, 40 volume cream peroxide (during UV lightening), acrylic paint, and Rit Powder Dye (in pedal pink).

And finally, the one I'm most pleased with is Raincurl! She's one of my favorite ponies and I was so happy to pick her up in a lot like this. Like Fancy Flower, she also needed a re-pinking as well as a day in the UV chamber. Initially, I only put her body in the chamber since her body was darker than her head once cleaned, but I may lighten her head as well in the future since it now looks just slightly off. Second photo shows her mane from a different angle; in person, it's more pastel than the before and after shows. The colors also appear darker when they're tightly curled I think!

Products used: Dawn dish soap, Magic Eraser, Suave Almond and Shea Butter conditioner, 100% acetone, 40 volume cream peroxide (during UV lightening), acrylic paint, and Rit Powder Dye (in pedal pink). For her ringlet curls, I use drinking straws and bobby pins/tiny claw clips to hold the hair in place overnight.

I have a Firefly with a missing tail as well as a Baby Bouncy in need of a complete re-hair from the same batch, I'll be sure to share those once I've completed them!

Lovely work! I love seeing Lemon Drop, she is a favourite of mine <3 In Bri'an Rainbow Curl is Rainbow Cloud, innit?

Thank you! <3 I really like Lemon Drop's colors ^^ and yes, Raincurl was called Rainbow Cloud in the UK. I can see each name fitting her well, depending on if you're referring to her rainbow curls or the rainbow cloud mark!

I prefer some of our names, but others are daft... like the pocket ponies.

Here's the only pony I was unable to fully rescue; Sprinkles. She was very heavily marked with pen and marker, must have been some time ago as the color has completely soaked into the vinyl. In my experience thus far, I have had no luck completely fading these types of marks. Tried acetone, magic eraser, even filing the vinyl down to see if it was merely surface staining. I've tried several days straight in the UV chamber, reapplying 40 vol developer every 12 hours or so. It really doesn't budge after a certain point. The sad part is she had cleaned up very well on all other parts of her body apart from the pen/marker, which did fade a bit, but not nearly enough to call it a full restore. I wish I had taken photos before applying paint, sadly I did not as I wasn't even sure if I would showcase her at all at the time. From now on, I'll be sure to document any major changes in cases like these on the off chance I discover something that could help someone else in the future.

Currently, I'm attempting a full body repaint despite my dislike for full repaints on restores (personal preference, no shame on others who choose to do so). Without an airbrush, the paint just never seems to sit right on the vinyl and I often get streaks, even when building up light coats. She's serving as an experiment for now! I will show off her completed paint job regardless on how it turns out. I'm almost certainly going to rescue a second Sprinkles to have an unpainted for my collection regardless, but we'll see.

If anyone has had better luck than I have in regards to removing imbedded pen/marker ink, I'd like to hear your thoughts and methods. So far, it's looking like the only choices are to keep them under UV treatment for a very long time or to cover them up.

I have removed biro and black marker by just sitting a pony in the windowsill and just leaving it. The marker pony is Sundance, and the marker on her body is a distant memory after 3 months, but the marker on her head is still only half gone.

Do you worry at all about dye from re-pinked hair transferring onto the body of the pony? I know some colors of pony hair are not 100% colorfast, like original Surprise chartreuse can bleed into the vinyl, as can some shades of pink. I also had ponies get stained by being in a box for a few weeks cushioned by an old, dark colored bedsheet, and they were never even wet. I'd be very worried about this happening if I used dye on the hair.

Beautiful work going on at your spa! The ponies look 30 years younger!

I admit that was my biggest fear going forward with it! According to the tutorial I used as a guide, she never had dye transfer with the vinyl, even with white ponies. I didn't see any staining while she was actively dipping the pony either, so that eased my worries a bit. I'll say I also had to use very little dye in the mix, so that may lessen the chances of it bleeding if it were to happen. This re-pinking method is supposedly something that collectors have done for quite some time now, I would think someone would have reported on color transfer by now (like with dying the vinyl itself, people have come back to say the dye doesn't last months or even years later). If I've missed an instance where this has happened, I'd definitely like to hear about it!

Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed the posts! I've had a blast reviving all these beauties so far ^^ <3

Here's a follow-up to the Sprinkles repaint:

Not entirely thrilled with the results, but it was a fun experiment! Despite using a matte sealant, she's still more shiny than I would have wanted. Still shows a lot of streaks in the paint and I doubt I could achieve smoother coats without an airbrush or possibly higher quality paint. I will likely get a second Sprinkles to restore proper minus painting in the future, but for now she does display well enough (I have hair coming in for her missing tail if the results grow on me and I want to 100% complete this).

Here are two completed restores from my last lot:

It's Tassels! The Merry Go Round ponies are some of my favorites next to the Rainbow Curl ponies. She needed very little work apart from a spa day, a day in the UV chamber, and some styling. Decided to give the Merry Go Round ponies in my herd ringlet curls because I have no self control and they're fun to do. I also have no idea what's going on in the first photo, I swear it isn't a photo filter; what I think happened is the sheer pink curtain in my room may have been shielding the light that day and gave the photo a nice pink overlay lol

Products used: Dawn dish soap, Magic Eraser, Suave Almond and Shea Butter conditioner, 100% acetone, 40 volume cream peroxide (during UV lightening), and black ink art pen (touching up the eyes). For her ringlet curls, I use drinking straws and bobby pins/tiny claw clips to hold the hair in place overnight.

Flower Bouquet, my beloved. I honestly think she may be my very favorite pony! Like Tassels, she only needed a basic spa day, a day in the UV chamber, and hair styling. Additionally, I re-pinked her hair (intentionally going just a bit deeper with the color) and recolored her blush. Only thing left bothering me are the two tiny marks on her face; once more, the dreaded ink pen strikes again. If it continues to bother me while she's displayed, I may pop her in the UV chamber once more to see if they fade away.

Products used: Dawn dish soap, Magic Eraser, Suave Almond and Shea Butter conditioner, 100% acetone, 40 volume cream peroxide (during UV lightening), chalk pastel sticks (for blush) and Rit Powder Dye (in pedal pink). For her ringlet curls, I use drinking straws and bobby pins/tiny claw clips to hold the hair in place overnight.

The last pony to be worked on from this lot is a Daddy Sweet Celebrations; currently waiting on a Shimmerlocks delivery to rehair him! Will be my first full rehairing, so I'm excited for that!

Here's a preview of what I'm about to start on; found this herd of babies in need of some intense TLC. These are absolutely ideal for what I look for in restore projects, so I'm super excited! These are my first Beddy Bye Eyes and first Teeny Tiny Baby for my herd, too. Time to get to work! <3

Ohhhh, Flower Bouquet is one of my favorites, and she's GORGEOUS with that deeper pink!! If my childhood pony didn't still have nice hair I would toootally give her hair this color!

Few updates: this was by far the most rust I’ve ever seen in a pony, it was terrifying as it was fascinating.

Got a shot of them all in the chamber, before and after the lights were turned on:

I know seeing the symbols and eyes uncovered is spooky, but I’ve done this a few times now with no fading on the paint. If I was sunfading the traditional way outside for weeks/months at a time, then I would cover the paint as I think the heat is more damaging than the light itself. Will make a note if I ever do this and end up taking some paint off or fading it in some way, but so far it’s been fine.

Bet poor Northstar feels so nuch better U_U
