any tips on styling hair?

Depends on the condition of the hair to begin with and whether there’s tinsel or not. If the hair is in great condition to start with, you can use curling irons, or straighteners on low heat.

Styling your ponies hair is completely up to you. That’s the beauty of MLP and pony spa days. :)

I personally like to keep my G1’s as close to what they were originally. So, a nice curly tail and mane depends on pony.

Some ponies get the ol’neck wrap curl where others get curlers either with a perm curler or a Boba straw (I’ve had the same ones for many years now). It depends on how big I want the curls.

Best way to set a curl is to dip the hair in hot water (doesn’t matter if before or after in curler). Then I wrap in paper towel and secure with either a bit of tape or the curler’s holder. Then I leave it to set for several days (sometimes I’ve forgotten them for a week lol).

Then I get beautiful luscious curls that last for a long time. :)

Here’s some of my Fairy Tail birds that I recently cleaned and styled using the above method:

Here’s the resulting curls after 48hrs in curlers and straws.

Ohh they're adorable Sky!

Caribou-You can use boiling water and hair rollers for curls. You can do beads, feathers and braids. You can wrap their hair around their leg for a bit of a loose, bottom curl. You can do small baby hair clips.

Hey I recently looking into the same thing! The straws look really cool if you have the time/materials. I personally found a easier way to do it was to curl the hair around the foot. If it doesn't hold well you can secure it with a bobby pin. Here's a link to the Youtube video I saw:

This was the result when I tried it:

Good luck with your ponies!

someone ought to do a tutorial for those of us that have never styled our own hair even. Lol! My hair has always kinda done it’s own thing, all I can do is keep it clean and tangle free.

I call mine “wash and wear”. lol I do actually know how to do lots with hair... a combination of playing with my mom’s as a kid, doing my own for dance, being a dog groomer, and then I got to have fun with E’s hair.

I'm with you

I bought a whole bunch of small rollers. But when they come out they don't look near as pristine or shiny as the curls in this thread. Is there some trick to removing the rollers? They are the hard ones with the elastic to keep the hair in place. I have like 15 ponies all lined up and have only taken out the curlers from one bc I cannot figure out how to keep them nice and neat.

I’ve had great success at pony curls with using drinking straws and pro hair clips. I wet the hair with some lightweight leave in conditioner, wrap it around the straws, and use the clips to hold them in place until dry, or two days. I’m thrifty, so I just reuse the straws until they’ve had it.

I’ve used a curling iron on low heat and the ’wrap around the leg’, too. Braid, twists, buns, and other more involved styles I’m dreadful at explaining.

I've been using the same straws for at least 7 years now... I do it because I love the ocean and turtles. o_o I've seen a lot of things in my animal ethics course I had to take in college and every little bit I can do to help conservation, I do it. It definitely involves not using plastics as much as possible and re-using where possible. Yay Earth!!

Ditto. I was raised to recycle, reduce, reuse, before it was a slogan. Back when people in California actually hosed off their driveways. Ever heard of a broom? We have the hard plastic reusable straws for our own use with a little brush to clean inside. The stainless steel ones feel so wrong on my teeth. I’ve only retired one curl straw (from fast food) and that was because I melted it. Well, the reflection of the sun did. I just ended up with a kink in my curl and I kinda enjoy shredding straws to throw away. Sometimes E will make something creative out of them, too. They make great flower stems.
