I decided it would be fun to deflock this nasty SS Cupcake I had. Boy was I wrong...

I bought some varnish remover (it comes in this spray can) and sprayed it in her leg to test. I left it on for 5 minutes, then tried using a Q-tip to rub the flocking off. It didn't work.

So I repeated the procedure and left the varnish remover on for 10 minutes. This time a teeny bit of flocking came off.

So, I decided if I boiled her in hot water first the glue/flocking might loosen up. So I boiled her, put the varnish remover on, and let her sit for 10 minutes. I had better results this time, but still, hardly any flocking same off. So I used the side of a nail file to scrape it off. This worked even better but left scratch marks in her plastic :(

So, I decided to try using just a ton of nail polish remover (w/acetone in it) and a Q-tip. I rubbed for about 10 minutes in a 1/4" area and the glue barely came off.

Now I have an even worse SS Cupcake than before and there isn't a spot on her that is completely flocking or glue free! What am I doing wrong?!

I think nail polish remover has too little acetone :) I'm not an expert mind.

I think you need 100% super acetone to get it off :)

deflocking

Deflocking is a major pain in the rear. Definitely go for the 100% acetone (it should be next to the regular strength nail polish remover or near the paint supplies in the hardware section. I used 100% acetone and Q-tips when I did deflocking - be extra careful, gentle around symbols and eyes of course and then I think I used Goof Off (? is that the night name for it - it's stuff that's supposed to remove sticky residues, crayon marks, etc.) to get off the layer of glue that's under the flocking. No matter what it's going to take a lot of work/time to get that flocking off (unless you get really lucky and get a SS that has magic flocking that comes right off - I did do one of those once, not sure why it was so much easier then the others either). Good luck.

aikarin has a good tutorial, but as it's for deflocking baits you'll have to adapt it:

here's an idea, where she says 'scrub hard' go over the eyes (well, techinically you won't need to do them) and symbols verrrrry lightly with a q-tip or soft paintbrush.

Oh yeah, I head ramming the pony in a washing machine in a pillow case can loosen flocking  as proved by a pals perfectly deflocked used-to-be-mint-flocking bangles!
