For whatever bizarre reason, Hasbro nixed tradition and didn't make any boy ponies. What would they have been like? Would they have new moulds like G1 and G4? Or the same lke G2? Would there have been mixed gender and all boy sets? Would we have gotten unicorns, pegasus and breezies? Or just Earth ponies?

Good point. There's always been a shortage of boys.

I think it is because they don't always sell well compared to other pink and purple girly ponies. G4 was just so different with all the men that were flocking to toy stores to buy ponies. I think with G4 they knew the boys would sell well and they have. As society changes toys change. As stereotypes about what children play with changes the company's have to change products. This has been going on for decades. I just think now in the last 10 years they have tried to include rather than separate toys for girls and boys, but it is not completely accomplished yet as a whole.

One thing I dislike is when toy lines that have tv shows make the boy character idiots, obnoxious and dumb/slow or even inferior. I played with boys more than girls growing up and I never saw boys that way. I never saw them better than me but, not what they seem to think a boy character should represent. Anime is terrible with this. It is a huge pet peeve of mine. Boy and girl characters should be equally strong, intelligent and fun. Or when they make boy characters act like they are following girls around like there is nothing else they are good for but sniffing out the ladies. Its really irritating. This is one reason I dislike the character Spike. Sorry, I know you all love him so. He irritates the heck out of me and could have been so much better. He is stereotyped for sure. And why do we always have to have girl characters that act like Diva's? Or snobby, fickle, snooty and argumentative?

I think it is difficult for toy lines to put boys in and do it correctly. Don't even get me started on the decades of Barbie's Ken. Ugggggg GI Joe now that was cool. My Barbie would certainly have picked him lol.

I totally agree with you on that its terrible. Why can't cartoons just represent people right? :/ Also you reminded me of the Ken doll song parody. lol

I agree, too. Although, I do like that fim included a diva. They still have aj and dash who are tomboys. I like that they represent an assortment of personality. There are some girls who are divas. One out of seven isn't too terrible. Also, the only g4's that they didn't make as boys were the the brushables. They made them all as bb, funko, and others, but I've only seen shining armor and his hair was so pathetic. As for spike, they do overdo the rarity crush, but when I was a teenager I did know some boys who, although intelligent, would act pathetic around a crush, so again, not too far off.

I do really wish that they were more accurate and equal. There is one show, Justin time, that I liked how equal the two characters are. There are several more that are aimed at toddlers that have really done well.

I was talking about boy scouts with my caregiver. Girl scouts and boy scouts have always been segregated and I understand wanting a single sex group for bonding, but I was always envious of all the cool stuff the boys got to do vs the boring frivolous stuff in girl scouts. Apparently females are to be allowed in eagle scouts soon?

I'm all for equality of the sexes, but the fact is that they are different. Even a tomboy is not a boy. Then, now, there are middle schoolers who are identifying themselves as homosexual, bi, trans, and all the other variables. Where do they all fit? I think very soon the lines will be as close to gone as possible when humanity contains such a variety.

There's also Spiral and Adventure Scouts. Mixed gender groups and not allowed to discriminate against lgbt children.

That's not true about Boy and Girl Scouts.

A lot of people don't realize that what scouts do, depends on the individual troop, the leaders and how much money they raise. The badges they earn are up to individual scouts. We made cool painted shirts, helped set up and volunteer at an earth day fair, went to Girl Scout camp, did archery, canoing, horseback riding, cleaned up litter, cooked, went bird watching, did nature walks, arts and crafts and went door to door selling cookies.

When I mentioned this, some guy tried to cast pity on us for going to a camp instead of roughing it. Not my fault that my troop was awesome enough to spring for a dedicated Scout camp and his wasn't. :D We had a lot of fun.

My thought is that if the girls want more then why doesn't the girl scouts add more to the program.? Why do we have to blend everything? It isn't that it is wrong to, I just think that it's healthy for social groups to have their outlets. Like R2 for example. When he does his cosplay stuff I stay out of it to give him time with the guys. Men need that. They want that. It isn't that I can't be a part because, I have gone a few times. It's just that I realize he needs time to do that stuff with his friends and I don't need to be a part of everything. So, I am looking at it from this perspective. Sometimes kids just need their groups and sometimes boys and girls are not ready for everything to be all mixed. Where as some are. I would have been okay with the boys, but I knew plenty of girls in my class those same boys would have died if they had to do stuff with them. LOL So, I feel we should not force a blend but rather consider making new programs if children want to try new and exciting adventures. I see nothing wrong with separating genders for social clubs. For example when the ladies and I want a day with the girls we are not interested in our husbands being a part of that. They would cramp our style. We have fun doing our girly things together and its fun to be in our social group without men. Sometimes there is nothing wrong with this. When I was in middle school I was very self conscious about all the stuff I was going through. I didn't want a bunch of boys in my social networks because, at that time I needed space to get use to me and not feel so embarrassed. So equality is fine, but there are some things that just are not equal if it poses an uncomfortable situation for some girls and boys. I totally feel though that if the girls want to do the things the boys are doing they deserve to do so and vice versa. I will say this too that with all my friends growing up and as an adult not one girl is a Diva, not one woman is a Diva so, I disagree that there has to be a Diva represented.
I am not sure at all how I managed to take the thread about G3 boy ponies this direction. ROFLOL Somehow though what is represented in society at the time will be reflected in toys for that time. That is why I love to collect antiques because of the social and historical significance, beliefs, stereotypes and all for those decades. I have found my collection quite useful when teaching children about the differences in girls from say 1950 to girls of 2000. They really enjoyed learning that and it helps them see the world in a different way. It is our History after all. Its interesting to me.

Its all good @tulagirl ! Human conversation is like a stream, it flows in all kindsa different directions.

I think boy ponies would have gotten the same moulds as the girls. I think there would have been mixed gender and boy only groups. I think there would've been boy unicorns and pegasus. But not breezies and merponies.

Even though, unis and pegs barely ever get boys, lesser made species get none at all!

Okay out of curiosity when it comes to Fantasy films were all the pegs and unicorns female? I am thinking not right? I definitely think we need male mer ponies!! Oh and boy breezies would be great too. We could give them quirky little faces/cute freckles and put them in charge of cleaning up after the animals. ROFLOL sorry just had to be silly. I was picturing them like fairies all in a group scooping out my cat box. Baaaaaaaa I am still longing for some magical way to get the cat boxes clean without me doing anything or my cats having a heart attack because they are machine operated.

Make those breezies earn their keep tula! :lolpony: Freckles on the boy breezies would be cute. I'm gonna customize myself a few boy merponies

Mia and me has boy unicorns and fim had boy breezies.

@Leave a Whisper @tulagirl I'm sorry if I made that post too combative or offended. I'm really not good at speaking human. I put the words together all wrong so the emphasis comes across wrong.
@tulagirl what you said was well put and more what meaning I was going for. It's sometimes important to have separate time.
@Leave a Whisper I didn't know about spiral or adventure scouts. I had no involvement in public schools for any age or any social groups from 1991-2011. I'm way out of the loop. I had a great time in girl scouts until I was seven. We did a lot that you mentioned. My brother, however, got to make and race go-karts, box cars, and went sail boating.

@Tak You didn't come across as combative at all.

Don't know how to speak human?! So! Your an alien eh? Or perhaps an interdimensional traveler? :drac:

I might be. Chickens understand what I say better than people and every other animal. I always figured that I wasn't human in my last life and it spilled over.

Do you have an aversion to KFC by any chance? :D

Of course they'd sing! They need some baritones in their little group. They'd look just like regular sea ponies I'd wager.

Could one have a moustache. They make me giggle.

I like kfc. Lol the meat chickens my mom raises literally just sit by the food and eat til they fall asleep with their heads resting in the dish.

Cannibal!

Aww, that sounds cute!

What? @Tak I didn't think that at all about what you said. I was just talking myself to death as I am quite opinionated you see. Baaaaaaa Plus today is not one of my better days pain wise so Miss Grump is going to boo and hiss over the Divas. Tee hee I have been standing on my soap box for years why should today be any different? ROFLOL

Boy sea ponies would be super. They would probably all sport mohawk hair styles and be neon colors. Or they could have that typical 80's hair style where the hair is short everywhere but the little tail in the back. Maybe they could have Van style symbols. Or they can all be surfer dudes. If TMNT can have surfer dudes then so should MLP.

Mohowks! Yes! There could be mullets, too. Lol.
