I went to the craft shop to search for things for the Halloween swap (I know it's to early but I'm so impatient!) and they already have tons of Christmas stuff out. Not only that but they broke out the cinnamon air freshener and Christmas carols! Now I love Christmas as much as the next person but I wanted to enjoy the fall decorations first. Is anyone also experiencing Christmas in September?

Oh, honey. I used to be a manager at Joann Fabrics. Believe me... those cinnamon scented pinecones have been stinking up their backroom for months now. They don't like putting it all out this early anymore than you like seeing it. :p

I do enjoy the fall decor a lot and wish I had room to display such things.

Beginning of August, "Back to School Sales!" and BAM Halloween stuff everywhere~ Oh hey, can we get past Labor Day first?

Nope. CHRISTMAS TIME

Reminders of summers short-lived~

I was actually at Joann's. The poor woman who was setting up the tiny scented Christmas trees looked down right miserable! =( I think Christmas should be banned from appearing until at least mid October. Maybe I should start a petition :lolpony: Same here! Fall is my favorite time of year and I love putting up decorations in celebration of its arrival.

Exactly! We didn't even get to have Halloween at the end of August. At our Walmart it is a huge cluster of Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. It's like they're trying to roll all the holiday's into one. And no one even remembers poor Labor Day! Now that I think of it maybe this is how they've always done it and I'm just getting older enough to notice what's going on

Hobby Lobby starts putting the Christmas stuff out in July. I don't mind having holiday craft stuff out really early, but I wish it didn't mean Halloween stuff gets limited just so Christmas can go out. Halloween is my favorite holiday. I like Christmas, I just wish Halloween didn't get shafted on shelf space because of it.

I prefer to see Christmas over Thanksgiving and Halloween myself :p Christmas is my favorite season.. Halloween just gives the miscreants in my neighborhood an excuse to be more jerks than they usually are.. and Thanksgiving.. meh.. it's just one day. You eat some turkey and cranberry sauce and it's done :p I enjoy Christmas because I love seeing the decorations and such like for the entire time between Thanksgiving and New Years. I always love seeing the decorations out in stores and seeing the options in the craft store.

Although, I must add. We could do without the cinnamon scented anything. Those things just plain out stink and I can't stand smelling them, let alone touching them to count them for work. Ugh.

My main grief is that the stores start playing Christmas music in October. I admit it! Call me a Grinch, I don't mind. I hate the stuff. It's cloying and insipid and I despise it with a loathing that is probably better suited to the hatred one feels for their most dire enemy. Christmas music just rings fake to me, and calls out all the huge expectations and feelings of guilt this holiday has to offer.

So fooey. I like lit up trees and buying presents, and even cooking. Just please, please spare me that music! AUGH!

(This all stems from my stinkin' friend Cliffy who will play Xmas music from dusk till dawn from September to February. MADDENING!)
:surprisepony:

I still love ya, Skippety Doo. Play it away! I'll wear earplugs! :rolleyespony:

It's hard to type when your cat is attacking the mouse pointy pointer on the screen.

@evilbunnyfoofoo I do enjoy Christmas carols. However I only really only like them when I'm home with family or I go to a church play. I don't like them much blasting in a store followed by "Go to aisle two for Christmas cheer!!!" It does make them feel fake. Especially when they blast in August :madpony:

@CJFullmer As a crafter I'm glad to get a jump on Christmas, I just want them to leave a space for Halloween :lolpony:

@SkippetyDoo That's to bad about the cinnamon! It's my favorite part of Christmas but if you're forced to be around it all day and it gets all over your hands I can understand why you don't like it!

I just wish they would wait until the previous holiday would pass. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and I want to fully enjoy that before anything Christmas hits. Even Halloween before October makes me annoyed. Too much marketing garbage. As for Christmas, it's just not as special when they play the music too early. It should just be for that small frame of time to make it a more magical holiday experience.

I love listening to the music too. And yes.. I'm one of those people that start in November. I have a Christmas song list in my iPod even.
I'm with ya Skip. I'm not going to tell you how many songs are on MY Christmas playlist... :ponylove:
Ditto :satisfied:

But I do think that October is entirely too early. I love Christmastime and everything, but I also want time to enjoy Halloween and Thanksgiving without being too rushed.

See, I just don't care for Halloween. Not that I mind it, and I think others should enjoy it, if they want to. It was just never a holiday we really celebrated as a kid (we lived in the country and couldn't do trick-or-treating). I love the idea of harvest parties though and fall is one of my favorite seasons. I usually don't start listening to Christmas music until after Halloween. I love Thanksgiving too, but for me part of Thanksgiving is also listening to Christmas music. :)

I'm with you. I don't care for Halloween. It's not even a real holiday :p I don't get off and I don't get extra pay :p It's just a day for kids to go out and get MORE candy that they probably don't need. And I agree about Christmas music being with Thanksgiving.. as much as my dad hates it I have to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade every year.. it's the start of Christmas to me.

@CJFullmer I grew up in the country as well. Our whole town would throw festivals and parties. Fall is also my favorite season for that reason. I'll never forget drinking cider, hay rides, and the fall leaves. Man this makes me miss my hometown! I was lucky to be able to trick or treat when I was kid. Halloween is definitely my favorite Holiday. In our home we also listen to Christmas music around Thanksgiving time! It's a tradition to play jingle bells while cooking the turkey :lolpony:

@SkippetyDoo I think when I have kids I won't like Halloween as much. I wouldn't want my kids loading up on so much sugar. Yuck!!

I love Christmas, it's my favourite holiday ever, despite not celebrating it anymore. I'm one of those people who has trouble remembering that the tree has to come down in January. I like Christmas music, but only around November-December. The stores here put decorations up as early as October, but they don't start with music until later.

And I don't have to worry about it taking over other holidays, because we don't have Halloween OR Thanksgiving here. There are one or two shops that sell crappy Halloween decorations and costumes for the few people who want to throw a theme/costume party, but nobody trick-or-treats here (it's too dangerous for it anyway), and there's no celebration except for the few pagans having their private little samhain festivals.
