Yay! There is a male pony base that is already the right color for my ponysona! Well, I had to remove an enormous painting from the left side of Soarin's body. I have seen restorers use some kind of tool (dremel rotary tool?) to smooth out ponies. I think Soarin is going to need some plastic surgery to look like "Luminary."
BradsButtSide.JPG lookin' good where I removed his small symbol!
AngelinasButtSide.JPG What have I done?? :shock:Yeah I lack the patience, coordination, talent,... mostly patience...to do this without a coin. Also, I have hypothyroidism so my nails weren't really tough enough to scratch it all off. This can be smoothed out I'm sure....right??

This is the only pony that will have to have his eyes repainted, although the Clever Clover base I have for the G2 needs gems (probably dark blue). I hope I can *partially* pay for these rehairs with a "free" (except for the labor :hmph:) Sand Digger that needs to be rehaired. But she is clean and I can send the hair along with her, including change-color hair in the original white (turns purple like on mylittlewiki) and very pale lemon yellow (turns original hot pink), along with rehairing tools and tail zip ties.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on this Soarin that I have clearly angered? Easy to smooth?

It looks smoothable to me? I hope it is. I just had to tap the DJ-PON3/Vinyl Scratch version by my bed to remind me of the texture

Good work on getting rid of those prints on the side though, I thought those things could never come off!

I found some Swarovski crystals in the clearance bin at Joann's lately - 2 different sizes. THESE I could get to you for the cost of the stamp! LOL! (So, no charge to you.) Do you want me to send them over? Do you like the dark turquoise, dark royal, or incandescent blue better?

@Daintress I think I like the turquoise, despite being a huge Liz Taylor fan- since it matches Clever Clover's iris color...but I'm worried that those appear to be flatback, and I think I will need pointback for it to work. But if you don't mind I'll take the turquoise anyway,*it might work,* and I didn't realize I could use that shade until you suggested it. Have you ever fixed G2 eyes with flatback?

Did anyone notice I labeled the picture of the smooth side "BraddsButt" and the picture of the screwed up side "AngelinasButt?" I Thought that was clever :lolpony:

Thanks Daintress!

@Daintress Nice customs! Very few ponies have brown eyes-G3 Cinnamon Breeze and G1 Rosette and G1 Butterscotch are the only ones I can think of. They look even more soulful when they are metallic. How sweet to make a pony of someone's horse! Let us know her reaction!

EDIT: @Daintress I have been doing research, and for the purposes of my custom-those dark turquoise flatbacks will work (probably)! Thanx again!

Well, I sanded him the best I could. He gets dirty now very easily. Not sure if I should use an acrylic paint sealant (like what customizers use on symbols). Any suggestions?

Acrylic gloss medium is something I'm thinking of trying for a similar problem I have: artist (archival) quality. But I can't vouch for it yet, whether it interacts with the vinyl well - fine sandpaper sounds like it would work on the harder plastics of G4/G5

If you wanted him slightly shiney again you could spray him with Testors clear coat sealant, it’s got kind of a semi gloss finish so it should work

Just make sure he's really, really smooth first, as glossy sealants or finishes tend to highlight any imperfections ;)

Thats a good point, plus once he’s sealed you can’t decide to sand him down anymore if it looks too bumpy

I will probably send the sandpapers to whomever does the rehair....I don't want to mess up anymore!

I would use these finishing sandpapers to smooth his body down before anything else since it looks pretty rough.
Start with the 400 grit, then work up to the 1000 grit. It should be pretty smooth by then.
You can go all the way up to 2000 grit if you want him super smooth. (It's sold seperately.)
Honestly, I think the 1000 grit should cover you, though.
I did it (i think)! What do you guys think? The first pic is the original problem for comparison. Thank you so much @chii for the link and instructions. honestly, I only really needed the 400. and it only took 45 minutes!

Glad I was able to help! :)
You did a wonderful job with him. He looks great! :twohearts:

I love working with that sand paper on various arts and crafts. It's surprisngly handy to have around.
