I got a box of ponies (G3, G3.5, G4, and fakies) in the mail today. Not caring to take them out one by one, I dumped them all out on the bed. Immediately, my cat Frito zoomed up to the pile and started purring full throttle. He nuzzles them, cuddles them, hugs them, and has even started grooming them like he would another cat! I even picked him up and carried him away for fear he might start chewing them, but multiple times he just kept running back to cuddle! I ended up just covering the ponies with a blanket to deal with later, at which point he promptly laid right down on top of it and took a nap. Another cat of mine, Charcoal, also laid down with the ponies and started purring immediately, but was not quite as enchanted as Frito was.
This behavior is very unlike Frito, as he's typically an aloof, non-emotive, lone wolf type cat.
I've only seen this behavior to this extent with one other pony; my childhood Coconut Cream. The poor girl's been mauled to heck and back by many cats over the years. I hide her, they track her down. No matter where she is. To this day no clue what causes this fascination, and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this baffling phenomenon.
