Okay... this inspired me to look a little deeper into cosplay. Some of what I found was total coolness... some? Not so much. EEEK! Wrote a blog post about it (caution, some images are just icky):
Cosplay – kinda cool or creepy and weird? « TD 365
I'm really sorry that I took offence to your article.
I have been an active costumer/cosplayer for over 15 years.
There will ALWAYS be something someone doesn't like, but just because you don't like it doesn't make it "creepy and weird"
I'm not partial to the "human" style cosplay that you so much admire....but does that make it creepy, weird or wrong?? Nope. It just means *I* don't like it.
IMO, those applejack/rainbow dash costumes are PERFECT....they look like animated characters from the show have come to life. Its what *I* think a costume should look like. Does that mean its creepy and wrong?? Umm, nope. And they are NOT just "furries"They are people.
I am not limited to "furry"costumes. Infact, I am striving towards my first full body ones. That person had INSPIRED me by their fantastic costumes. I had never been blown away by such awesomeness.
It actually takes a lot more skill to be able to transform your body with underpadding (to make it look correct) and to make a proper body than it does to slap some pretty rainbow on a blue sweater with some goggles.
Perhaps, before you judge people you should think of how much hard work actually goes into a costume like that.
" Because seriously, anyone who thinks THAT is awesome? Well… I think they may need some serious help (and I do hope they have someone in their life qualified to give just that)."
I do not need help for thinking that any of those images are awesome. I think YOU need some help to address your clear desire to rip apart what you don't understand. Judge not, lest you be judged
