G1 ID help - possible South African?

Hi :)

Was wondering if anyone can help me ID this pony. She's the first pony I ever got, and I can't recall any of my friends having one like her, as and such I've never known quite what she is. It occured to me recently that she might be a South African variety? Of what though is the question... Cotton Candy? She has "83 Hasbro Pat. Pend" on one hoof and "Hong Kong" on the other.

Was giving her a light clean up, so her mane and tail are a bit damp in the pictures. As you can see the poor old gal is not in perfect condition, unevenly faded with some marks and really frizzy/dry mane and tail.

OMG! SA Cotton Candy! I have always wondered if she existed! She looks SA to me. Is her tail rooted? She is in the typical pose that all other SA ponies I've seen are in. Lucky you! If you ever decide to sale her, keep me in mind! Congrats on owning a rare gem!

It looks like her tail is rooted. I've never seen a SA Cotton Candy! Wow!

looks like a SA pony to me! you should cross post this on the arena. I don't think they have a SA cotton candy in their nirvana album yet!

heya :)

looks like her tail is rooted, and yep, that walking pose is I believe the main pose for SA :) super huge congrats on having a rare MLP! Lucky for you, it happens to be from where you live :)

totally agree with buddafly above if you also hang at the arena = this is definitely a nirvana post! And I think bestofthewest was trying to get a nirvana forum going as well ...

super cool pony pics :) even cooler she's a childhood pony = those are the best treasures!

:surprise::surprise::surprise:Oh wow!! Major congrats!! That is a phenominal find! She definitely looks South African to me. I've never seen a SA Cotton Candy before! She looks gorgeous too!

I also think you should go to the MLP Arena and post pictures of her in their Nirvana forum- the members there would love to see her too :butterfly:

Thanks for the response :) Her tail is rooted. It's really odd to think that I've had a "rare" pony all this time! I must admit that she was never a favourite of mine, her mane and tail used to annoy the heck out of me because I could never get it straight and silky like my others, poor girl :)

I've signed up at the MLP arena, just waiting to be approved and then I'll post her over there too.

I never really thought that she'd be sellable, but I guess it's something I could consider - I'm really not a big MLP collector (as much as I'd love to be), and sooner or later she'll find herself packed away in the toy box again, only to be brought out for the odd cleaning which is what's been happening so far since I was a child. I suppose it would be nice for her to go to a home where she would be appreciated for what she is :)

If you took offers on her, I wouldn't be surprised for her to sell for $500 or more. She's in -very-nice shape for a South African pony, even with the frizz. :)

I second the taking offers thing too. Will give those interested in her time to save up for her.

People will definitely be interested in her, and giving a week or so of advance notice before starting an auction will give people time to raise funds like plushroo said. If you decide to sell on here or on the Arena, she'll stay in the community as well :) (plus you avoid ebay fees!)

Oh my gosh!! She's amazing! You seriously never know what is going to pop up in someone's home. Wow, there are some nirvana collectors who would love to take her off your hands!

Wow! She is a pretty girl for sure! I say think long and hard before you decide to sell, as she is your childhood pony, and therefore not replacable rare pony or not. There is only one that you can say was yours from childhood. However, if you are sure, then I agree with everyone's suggestions, and yes, she will fetch a pretty penny.

A side note....seeing here makes me wonder if there is a SA Bluebelle out there...not that I could ever afford her. lol

Thanks for the responses everyone :) So strange to think I've had a "rare" pony in my very small herd all this time! I'm going to look into the whole auction thing :)

Settican- I wanted to introduce myself and let you know that here at the TP we do have a social group specially dedicated to International/Variant ponies or as they refer to them at the Arena "Nirvana's". If you would like to check out the group all you have to do is click on my Siggy and it will take you straight there. I started that group a few years ago and we have a fantastic photo album of different members International MLP collections. Please feel free to add a pic of your CC to the groups album, members there would love to see her :) Its a very special find as any Variant collector will tell you. Also in the future if you ever have questions about a ponies origin please feel free to use the group for that as well, thats why I started it, its solely dedicated to this type of stuff. Congrats on your wonderful discovery. By the way, I agree with Joisekat, since it is a child hood pony and such a rarity, maybe give it a little thought before deciding to sell ;) If you do decide to sell her down the road, my International/Variant group is a great place to start looking for buyers. If you have any questions about the group, don't hesitate to PM me :)

Thanks bestinthewest, I'll take a look at that group for sure :)

As it is, I have posted a thread about officially taking offers on her: South African Cotton Candy - Taking Offers

I'm sure you'll have no problems finding a buyer! Feel free to post this announcement in the group as well :) Seeing as all the members are International lovers/collectors, it might be another good place to advertise this. Good luck with your sale!
