I'd like to encourage my daughter to read more, she's not big on it, but right now her thing is Warrior Cats. She also likes quirky stories.

I'd like to try her on some of my old childhood favorites, but I can't remember all their names. I'd like to get her books in a similar vein of Warrior Cats (because she has so many, its getting hard to find ones she doesn't own) and I just purchased Watership Down.

I remember reading a whole bunch of animal books that were from the animals point of view and I think Jean Slaughter Doty wrote some of them.

She turns her nose up at Red Wall so that's out.

Some I've been thinking are
Silver Chief, Dog of the North
Aliens for Breakfast,
Mrs. Fisby and the Rats of NIMH
Brighty of the Grand Canyon
Big Red
Call of the Wild
Bunnicula series
Jeremy Thatcher Dragon Hatcher (Bruce Coville books are excellent period.)

What are some of your favorite childhood books?

Witch-Cat by Joan Davenport Carris
The Ratha Series by Claire Bell--Ratha's Creature, Clan Ground, Ratha and Thistle-Chaser, Ratha's Courage, Ratha's Challenge.
Tomorrow's Sphinx by Claire Bell
King of the Wind By Marguerite Henry
Wolves of the Beyond (Vols 1-6) by Kathryn Lasky

That's all I can think of for now, some of these are books I read as a kid, others I've read as an adult (even though they aren't adult books).

I loved reading as a kid, I liked many by Roald Dahl, I read tons of Goosebumps and I liked the Chronicles of Narnia. One of my favorite Christmas stories is The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus. I loved the Serendipity books too, oh' and Misty of Chincoteague and the Black Stallion. I read tons of horse related books as a kid, you guys remember Saddle Club and Babysitter's Club books.

Ooh! Baby Quackers would love it if they could chat on warrior cats!
If you are looking for books with the same vibe as Warrior Cats, the same author has series with adventure. Look for Seekers and Survivors. Personally I have not read them yet, but they sound good!
And she will probably not have the Super Editions. They are huge, but they will keep her busy.
Other than that, Quackers has to come on scene and name more books LOL

That sounds interesting! I will hafta check that out.

If she's reading Watership Down, she could read the Golden Compass series by Phillip Pullman. Lots of animals in those. I also can't get enough of Neil Gaiman's books and he writes for all ages. I always recommend The Graveyard Book by him. Great for kids and adults.

She's loving her books. ^^
