How Do Clean a So Soft Pony?

So Soft ponies have a fuzzy covering on their body known in the community as "flocking."

Flocking can easy become very dirty, and there are a few things to keep in mind when cleaning up your So Soft pony:

Step 1: Water and soap

Run COLD or COOL water in your sink. Warm or hot water will loosen the glue on the flocking, and risk loss of the flocking or bald patches as a result. Pass the pony under the water enough to get it wet.

It is generally recommended that you NEVER SUBMERGE your pony.
Submerging or soaking a pony in water gets water trapped within the body and greatly leads to an increased chance of mold and rust.

A gentle soap like Dawn dish soap is great at de-greasing and removing all kinds of dirt and sticky residue. Soap up a soft cloth, or other non-abrasive cleaning tool and gently wash the dirt away. Rinse when clean.

NOTE: If you scrub your pony, the flocking WILL come off.

Step 2: What about these marks that won't come off?

Many a pony collector has faced the frustration of trying to get stains off a So Soft without damaging their flocking.

The trick is to try to work smarter, not harder, so to speak, and to be patient. ;)

Click below for the MLP Preservation Project's guide to using Oxy Clean:

NOTE: Any kind of acetone, nail polish remover, etc will result in flocking loss! Be careful!

NOTE: NEVER EVER USE BENZOYL PEROXIDE!
These acne creams were touted as a cure for permanent marks for years, until the evidence began to show over time.

This pony has been nearly ruined as a result of someone using acne cream to try to bleach out some stains. This damage is permanent.

Step 3: Drying time

Always let your pony dry THOROUGHLY, usually for about a week in a well-ventilated area, before placing in your collection or sending in the mail. Using a hair dryer will not help the inside to dry from any moisture that seeped in through the neck seam, tail hole, or mane holes!

So Soft Ponies, especially if they have been submerged for an Oxy bath as linked above, may take longer to dry.

Always err on the side of caution. ;)
