A doll wearing non-removeable clothing that appears to have painted-on decoration on the hem? it does not scratch off easily, and *almost* seems to be part of the material (but just as clearly is not); but it does wear off with every-day general handling. The doll is similar to the "Dress up" style Rainbow Brite dolls (with remove-able clothes). We need to wash the whole doll, but we don't want the paint (or whatever it is) to get ruined. I would probably just soak the doll anyway, in a lingerie bag without running an agitation cycle, but am still unsure what will happen to the painted-on portion. And she needs more than just a surface wash, let me tell you :p

ETA not sure where to put this, mods please feel free to move it

You could put her in a pillow case and then down in another pillow case after that and make sure she is wrapped tightly so that the doll doesn't scratch up against things. There is no guarantee it won't fade a little. I would recommend Woolite or Dreft maybe...and lots of water on delicate cycle cold water. I have washed lots of things like this and have not lost the painted surfaces, but using oxy does ruin the surfaces and not wrapping the doll will also be an issue. I would check to make sure the paint they used is not water based because it will come of it it is. Run water over a section and see what happens. It will be a risk no matter what you do.

I'd just try hand washing it the best you can, preferably with a mild soap or detergent. If you soak her, I'd check on her every once in a while. That way if you see any paint being damaged you can stop immediately and salvage what you can. Good luck!

Thanks, all! We'll give it a go and see what happens. I think we'll start with a hand wash and move up from there...
