I'm so confused about FF vs. CF. Any help?

I can't believe I've been a collector for over four years and still can't get this straight.

The six original ponies --Cotton Candy, Butterscotch, Blossom, Minty, and Snuzzle-- were produced in Year 1. All had flat feet.

Were ALL of these girls reproduced in Year 2 with concave feet? Or were only certain ones released in Year 2, and then ALL released as mail orders in '86 with concave feet?

Only Blossom and Cotton Candy were re-released in year 2 with concave feet.

There is a slight color difference between them and the mail orders.

Hope that helps. :D

it's pretty hard to figure out which Blossoms/Cotton Candys were mail orders and which were year 2's. I BELIEVE the more pink version of Blossom is the year 2, and the very dark Cotton Candy is the mail order. All the others are obvious since they are either FF 1982s or CF 1983-1988 mail orders =)

But yeah, that's why Cotton Candy and Blossom are the most common collector's ponies. They had an extra year!

Now we have to nickname her "Blue Belle the Forgotten" =D

*runs off to check*

Yes, yr2 Cotton Candy is lighter than the MO and yr2 Blossom is darker than her MO counterpart.

I've seen er...ack. BLUEBELLE. That was it. Bluebelle, MOC on US card. I'm hunting my hard drive for the picture...and I can't find her :S I'll keep looking.

Really?!? Wow! I'd love to see it if you can find it. Maybe she was a late issued yr1?

I think it's impossible to tell the difference between MO and proper issue because there are so many batch variations in colour anyhow. Unless you have them MIP you can't really be sure...

I've had mine (yr1, yr2 and MO) since I was a kid. They don't look any different than back then. Also, I was weird and I labelled them so I wouldn't forget which was which. That's why I posted about the colors above. But you are right about batch colors. They definately vary.

I have 2 Butterscotch's, one with flat feet, the other with Concave feet...well I have 3, but the other is riddled with cancer poor girl. But the CC one's body is much brighter and the plastic feels a bit harder..so yeah

There's also the mystery of the blue-eyed Cotton Candys . . . Did anyone ever figure out where they fit in? I know the Year 2 concave foot Cotton Candy was produced with purple eyes because I still have my childhood original.

~LM~

Purple can fade easily to blue, so the eye colour is not an exact science.

ok my bad I posted a thread about my blossoms cause I just got a uber purple one and I was doing a double take on them since my other is pinkish both concave hooves..and I consulted the online bible(Dream Valley)well it doesn't say much about them both being CC but it mentions 2 colors. one being orginal six and the other re-issue..who knows..i'm confused now and its cool lol

Since we're on topic...Flat Foot Blossom. Maybe I havent been looking hard enough.....but is she more HTF than the others? I could be crazy but I just haven't seen her up for sale (that I can remember) at all. *scoots gaurdingly closer to her FF ponies*

hmm not sure..I have a couple FF Butterscotch, cotton candy. all the rest are CC and my poor blue belle has a pen mark and rubbed symbols, but I still love her..my mint is just MINT lol and I adore her to no end.

I've definitely seen Butterscotch CF MOC, so she was also released that way in stores. It seems likely to me that there was a first FF run, and then a secondary CF run, and THEN Blossom and Cotton Candy were rereleased with the second year of ponies.
:)

to bad we can't rewind to the 80's huh? I'd go bonkers buying every pony on the shelf, I kick myself for not begging for them MORE and saving my kid collection.

My thoughts exactly. I got mad at my mom the other day for not buying me more ponies and never giving them to me.. lol. "you should have! I didn't know any better, I was only four!"

I have 3 kinda of first 6 ponies

concave (taller)
Flat foot (shorter)
Italian (shorter and with concave feet)

My guess is the mail orders were the Concave ones?

then blossom and CC got re released in the second set with applejack, Bubbles, SeaShell and bowtie.

and my italian is confusing me to no end cos she's the same size as the FF's but she's CC AAAAAAH!

My childhood Lemondrop is like that. She lines up with the FF's perfectly. She came out about the same time so they probably used a new early, pre-year 2 mold on those.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Kinda like mid-year ponies.

erm.. I've gotten one FF Blossom in an ebay lot, and one at the swap meet. I believe I got my two FF Butterscotch the same way. I also have FF Cotton Candy, from another ebayed lot.

"hard to find" really depends on the person and the times they buy. I've had 6! Sugarberries all together, and when I looked through want lists a couple weeks ago, it seems like there are quite a few people that don't have her yet.

I don't have CF or FF Blue Belle or Minty, and I still need FF Snuzzle. I've been seeing FF Blue Belle quite often in ebay lots lately, but they've been too chock full of ponies and going too high for me. =/
