G5 Is G5 Closer to G2 than G4?

I’m looking at my ponies and I notice how much thinner G5 seems to be than G4. There are some obvious features that are like G2 anyway like the feathered hooves and tiny ears but I’m wondering if this is a bit like when G2 got introduced after G1? It isn’t as much as a total shock changes since we just has G4 and the style was going all small and round bodied anyway. G5 has more of a body than G4 does and the previous gens did too. Maybe it’s more like a blend of the two or even like a G4 head on the body of a G4…

Would you say G5 is more similar to G2 than G4?

Someone once said they looked like 3.5 heads on a G2 body. That's a fairly accurate description I'd say. Although the heads are still far too round like G4's. So its a mix of all 3 I think.
That sounds pretty accurate to me too. There’s no sign of the G3 style at all here but the .5 style, yeah.
The bodies have the most structure then the head is more of a ball

I found my first G2 yesterday, and I thought that they brought back that hoof style in G5. But as I looked at your photo, I think G5 is closer to the G3.5 Ponyville figurines. As others already mentioned G3.5 above.
I think the G5 figures are cute in a way, but the connection between the body and the head looks weird for me. Like someone stuck a doll head on an animal body. For me it is difficult to think of a pony or horse. But as I think of G3.5, the feeling is very similar, except they were chubbier.
G2 is very horse-like.

Yeah, the connection of the head and body is very strange. The back of all ponies have the necks seamless like it just all connects easily but G5 does seem like a ball on a stick.

Congratulations on your G2 find!

Not crazy about the ball joint neck and head either. Looks like a head on a thumb.
Yeah, I really don't like those. They don't look right at all :/
When you try to imagine how the skull would connect to the spine… it’s very strange. I do like how I can make Sunny look up a bit if I wanted her to for a photo but yeah it doesn’t look right, I know what you mean

Okay I didn’t know what you meant when I said I know, my mistake

Yeah, the big ball neck on G2s on some is the weirdest part and then the movable leg is the next weirdest. Even more weirder when the pony discolours

seeing them side b y side like that, makes me like G5s even less. It doesn't look "naturally" horse-like to me. And I quote naturally because I know it's a cartoon and not supposed to be realistic, but still.

If it was possible to put a G2 head on a G5 pony…

That’s a really quick edit I whipped up and honestly, I kind of like it
