G5 Is G5 over?

I brought my American cousin to Toy R Us in Thailand. What a turn of even after getting Ponies from oversea Toy R Us for years.

I think the world has changed. Less children are born, and most of them are more interested in video games. This may sound pessimistic; It is becoming harder to make a decently successful brand. In this pointless pursuit of unlimited growth, a brand can't be self-sustainable any more, it has to be the fastest growling one, or it does not worth the investors' attention.

It is hard to make a My Little Pony that can shine, with the shadows of G1 and G4 setting an unrealistic expectation, and in a world that has changed. It is very hard to make a tie-in children cartoon that captivate adults, bring in more audience and potential customers.

G5's biggest problem is not G5 itself. it's the world.

There's a small TRU section at the Macy's near where I live. They have some G5 toys, and I've been watching them try to get rid of their stock of the Mane Melody playset for months. It's a shame because that set is soooo fun!!! I love the gold accents on Pipp and Sunny, and the Sparky figure is so cute. I think the playset is great because not only is it fun, but every almost single accessory can fit in the back of it, and everything else can fit in the front (and with the handle, it can be carried around; ironically this was the purpose of MWM but I can't fit those accessories in the playsets, LOL). It's different from typical playsets and dollhouses, as there's not much of an interior to play in, but I prefer that. Kids might not though.

Another playset I think is great is the big Sunny's Smoothie Cart, it lights up, has SO many different ways to play with it, but it's an online exclusive that almost flew completely under my radar. I only purchased it because someone must have returned it, and one ended up on the shelves at my Target. The only negative is I am not a huge fan of the Sunny that actually came with the set. Luckily, I have many, MANY Sunnys that can fill in for her, LOL.

It's interesting what Hasbro thought was worth putting in stores instead of being an online exclusive. Ollie's has so many of the Mane Melody playset, too. Maybe retailers' experience with the Mane Melody set made them more disinterested in ordering G5 toys to put on shelves.

I still get mad at those investors that 'bought' TRU.. They took so much from us..

No, and I'm tired of this fallacy. Kids still play with and ask for toys. Videogames have been available to the public since the 70s, so that's not to blame. Anymore then tv supposedly stopped kids from reading or playing outside.

The big world problem is the economy, rising taxes, and inflation. Plenty of people are struggling to keep their heads above water financially.

The problem with G5, is a combo of lazy repetitive toys, multi-packs, and high pricing. Why is a parent going to want to pay $75 for a six-pack of cheapo plastic toys their child already has most of, when they're trying to keep bills paid?

It's baffling, because they're not demanding that you buy a pack of 5 transformers for $80 with only 1 rare character like Esmeral amidst Optimus, Megatron, Starscream and Jazz. Or selling a $50 pack of big Joes that has Spirit amidst Duke, Cobra Commander and Destro. They're most always sold separately.

If Hasbro wants more mlp money, then sell the new characters singularly for the standard size price, so that they're not pricing out their target audience and turning away parents.

That playset haunts a lot of UK retailers, too. It's gone down from £44.99 to £13.49 in a few places, and it's still sitting on all the shelves. In fact, for a couple of retailers, that's the only G5 item they stock.

Not to sound mean, but I don't care much about G5. If they do a revamp, I just hope G6 toys will look more like actual ponies/horses and please, NO eyebrows.... lol

Aside from many much custom baits, I really only want Misty at this point.
