I'm planning a little flea market tour on King's Day. I'll start in Enschede, go to Almelo and then maybe Zwolle or Apeldoorn. Is anyone else in that region? Anywhere I don't have to go because you're already hunting there? Or maybe interested in a meetup in the afternoon?

I'll be in Leeuwarden and Groningen up in the north, so sadly not quite near you!

I would however advise really planning your day thoroughly - public transport will be overfull, the city markets can be huge with dense crowds (slow walking), and so city hopping may truly take up your entire day.

Head out early, dress for the occasion (orange!), make sure to bring cash and good luck

Yes, that's a bit far. A friend will go to Winschoten, so I decided to go a bit more south.

I will go there by car. Last year that was fine.

Oh, good that you remind me. Last year was so spontaneous, that I didn't have anything.

I'm around a lot of international students and some of them just really underestimate how busy it can get

Best of luck snooping in your chosen cities!

I can only compare to last year. There were a lot of people, but we didn't get stuck anywhere. But I should probably prepare my boyfriend for it.

Good luck to you too!

Tell this American all about this King's Day, I'm intrigued. From what I've gathered so far we need to wear orange and everyone goes out pony hunting, I'm in!!! :p

It's a Dutch holiday celebrating the birthday of the king on April 27th! Our national colour is orange which is everywhere that day, because the royal house is "Oranje Nassau" - oranje = orange. There's festivals, music, activities, fun all round - but most importantly: Vrijmarkt. Aka free market aka mega flee market. It's THE day for kids, adults and anyone in general to claim a spot in their city or towm, set down a blanket and sell *anything*. Including of course, vintage toys, such as ponies!

Dutch cities don't compare in size to American ones, but it's big enough to occupy multiple main streets of most cities, people getting up at the crack of dawn to claim a spot (or even marking it with chalk or tape DAYS before) and sell.

So yes, the ultimate pony hunting ground! I often scour for Pokémon cards and secondhand books as well. Anything goes, really.

Great to earn some pocket money as a kid too!

I have the North to myself mwuahahaha!

But thanks, and good luck to you as well!

The host on Airbnb didn't answer me and now the listing is gone  Next try in Apeldoorn.

This sounds fantastic!!! I would love to attend one day, sounds like the world's biggest yard sale but even better :D

I'm going around with friends, they're not into ponies but they promised to keep an extra eye open as well! I'm exciteeeed!! :rolleyespony:

It feels like we're seeing each other off to the races at this point

I already found some G5 stuff on the way to the Netherlands and here at TK Maxx.
And we have already seen the marked spots. Some here, some there. I hope I can find all.
