I have three friz problem ponies. I recently gave them a bath with Dawn dish soap, put in some Big Sexy Hair conditioner (It had gone bad, but did WONDERS for them. Hair nice and bouncy and shiny!). The three ponies are Stripes, Windy and G3 Fluttershy. They had major hair problems and this was the first time I had ever tackled pony hair.

I boiled some water and worked at combing out all the knots and tangles. Stripes had factory curl however it was so frizzy and tangled it wasn't work keeping. I managed to straighten the hair. However. Stripes and Windy had one big problem. Frizz. At the ends they have major frizz, especially Windy. Her tail looks like a giant poof ball. How to I fix major frizz? :?:

And for the record I DO NOT HAVE A FLAT IRON =(

Pony hair is an artificial material, so conditioner can't heal it like it would real hair follicles and shafts when its damaged. Definitely try fabric softener! A lot of people have found that it works in bad cases when conditioner doesn't.

If that doesn't work, you might have to look into a straightener - if the plastic threads are so kinked up they can't be fixed with softener, you'll need the heat to reshape them.

Best of luck!

you don't have to use a flat iron, you can use a regular iron to help heat the hair, that's what I do, just make sure they have plenty of conditioner in their hair and it's wet before you do it.

Also there's a tutorial over on the left hand side of the screen under help, all kind's of hair stuff there :)

Well thing is I tried the iron thing and it didn't seem to work. On the one with BAD frizz it didn't do much. The mild frizz it helped but the frizz is still there. I wet their hair, conditioner, iron. I tried putting a wet rag to protect the hair. Then I got brave and ironed the actual hair. I don't know if I did anything wrong..

I have had really good success getting rid of frizzes with heat. If they are really bad frizzes you won't be able to restore it to that new look, but you can calm it down from where it is...I have brought around a lot of ponies with bad hair days this way. Love doing it.

Frizzy ends secrets:

One other trick is to "curl" the hair with curlers - the frizz may still be present, but it won't really show if it's on the ends (it hides inside the curl) and if you are just doing this for your own pony display.
I've been trying to fix beach balls hair, but I knew there were still frizzy ends inside the curl and it bothered me.

Well I noticed once they were dry the frizz was imrpoved on fluttershy. You can't see it less you touch it. Windys tail is less of a ball of fluff. I'm taking her to my mothers as she has a flat iron and maybe a curler. Would a flat iron work? I'm going to iron stripes hair later then curl it soon as I get some straws :0 she's in such great condition. Her syombol is perfect and she has no bad spots! Now I just gotta see how to whiten windy..

Make sure you use really small pieces of hair in the flat iron (not too small though) probably about 20 strands thick? because you have to be sure to straighten out the frizz. If the hair is in a bunch, then you are just making the frizz worse. I made that mistake when I was younger... And be sure that the hair is dripping wet with alot of conditioner + water. I've had pony hair melt on me too. If you can get your hands on an INstlyer (the curler/flat iron with the rotating cylinder) That has worked the BEST for me. But the conditioner/flat iron trick works nearly as well! :) Good luck!
