On ebay there are Mimics going incredibly high. Wish I had an extra one to sell.

she's not totaly rare persay, but she's very saught after. demand drives up the price. she's one of the most dificult TE's to find in good condition.

Mimic... Eh?

I know all about Mimic. I just think its weird. With such a jump from 76 dollars to $120..

yeah, well if two people want her, then they are gunna bid till one runs outta money.

Id definatly have to disagree there. Whizzer is. Finding a pony with a head that matches her body....sounds easy enough LOL Galaxy is htf in mint cond. too, because her symbol is so small, that if some rubs off, half rubs off.

The ONLY reason Mimic so expensive is because 80% of the little girls who bought MLP thought she was a total uggo.

I think it's hilarious, back in the day, Mimic was considered an uggo, and undesirable cause she was horrendous. Now, she's all the rage! Bwahahahaha! Talk about  *snorts* Nowdays, people think that Mimic is pretty (you didn't when you were kids!!), and everybody wants her. There's not enough to fill the demands, because she was such an uggo nobody wanted her. :D Hahahahaha. Though I suppose I should congratulate Mimic, her ugliness has earned her a place as THE most expensive pony in the REGULAR line (by regular, I mean US-releases only, not UK-only ponies, and not MO ponies, just ponies sold in stores). How tragic.

Mint Whizzer is less common than Mimic, but she doesn't go for as much simply because there's way more UNmint Whizzers around than Mimics. And my Fizzy has PERFECT hair, it even has curl/wave/crimp, thank you very much, she's NM, and she was in a HUGE lot w/ some VERY ratty ponies. o_O I guess I got lucky! (lucky me, I <3 Fizzy) Never had a Galaxy, so I can't vouch for her.

Did they have the same-colored hair/the majority of it was the same color?? If so, it's possible Hasbro had a really crummy-quality batch of hair with them, thus it turns sucky on ya really easily.

And to all you people who don't think that Mimic is an uggo (and her name, WTF?! What kind of a name is 'Mimic'?? Is she a mime? Does she work in a zoo as an animal?? o_O), well, good for you!! :D I personally find her unattractive, though if I found a stash/one at a flea market for cheap, I'd buy 'em to sell (probably keep one though, cause my dad likes her). I dunno, maybe if I saw one in RL, I'd like her better. Does anybody have an EXTREMELY accurately colored photo of Mimic?? All the pics I see make her look uggo. Unless, of course, she's a lovely pale sea-green instead of olive/uggo-lime green. (usually I LOVE lime green, but it looks too mustardy on her)

So yeah, it's the truth though, Mimic IS ONLY in small quantities because she was thought to be an uggo by most girls, they didn't buy her, Hasbro didn't make many of her. :D Chuck all the fakies you like, it's the truth. Mimic = popular because Mimic = ugly pony to little girls. Err, never mind, I've been proven wrong. There are just as many Mimics around as Bright Eyes/Quackers/Whizzer/etc. Mimic is just more expensive cause nobody sells as many.

At least that's my POV. If others have other ideas (Ex Golden Horseshoes, which is no reason to be $100+), then feel free to state them. :D *hopes nobody got too ticked off/upset w/ my stating of uggoMimic *

I don't think Mimic is in short supply at all - nor can we prove that she's in short supply due to something that occured within production and *not* to children destroying their toys or parents simply throwing old toys away.
Furthermore, *all* of the second generation TEs are less common than the first generation. So perhaps children thought ALL of the TE ponies were creepy little bug-eyed freaks and didn't buy ANY of them, therefore Hasbro quit making the entire set.

I just think most people who have her WANT her, *because* she is expensive. Once you have her/spent the money to get her, you don't particularly want to part with her. So she might be slowly BECOMING more rare because fewer want to part with her. Those who do are most likely going to be other collectors rather than a random seller.
Additionally, she's expensive because of the *perceived* rarity - not the *actual* rarity. I see Bright Eyes WAY less than I see Mimic, but Bright Eyes goes for an average of $20, and Mimic an average of $70.

I couldn't care less if you think Mimic is ugly, but I quite object to the rude portrayal of collectors who DO like her as some kind of idiots falling into some kind of trap, tripping over themselves and striving for "the ugliest pony ever hurr hurr."
I respect your opinion and your right to find a pony ugly, but if you have to label it as "bashing" and note "Mimic lovers, don't look!" perhaps you should find a more polite way to phrase your opinions, or simply not give them at all.

At the time Mimic was produced, Hasbro shipped backcards of that size in boxes of twenty-four, with four of each pony in the six pony sets. (The sixth pony in the 2nd set of Twinkle-Eyes is Speedy, who was reissued for it.) So aside from Speedy, each Twinkle Eye from that set was produced in the same amount.

Of course, some were preserved MOC in the backroom of stores and some were blown up with firecrackers by bratty little brothers and some were thrown away by mindless parents . . . but there should be approximately the same number of Mimics out there as the other 2nd set TE ponies (in the US.)

Very true. Bright Eyes is the pony from that set that I consider the prettiest, BTW. ;)

Now, now Spooky, I must disagree. I desperately wanted her, but my mother refused because she was 'uggo' so I appealed to grandpa. Mother instead purchased Quackers, Bright Eyes, Galaxy and Locket for me in the TE series, while I had to beg for Speedy and Mimic because they were not 'girly' colors.

THe first time i saw mimic the only reason i wanted her was to complete the set. from childhood i have Locket Quackers (ducky as i called her lol) and Bright eyes. i got TTT a while back, now i need speedy and mimic.

but once i saw Lady Sea Shells Mimic in person, i actually found her VERY pretty.

And i didn't say she was THE hardest to find, i said one of the hardest. Whizzer and Bright eyes definatley knocking her off the map on that one. I've never had a problem thought finding galaxy or fizzy.

As a child they were the set i wanted the most cos they were all on the TV show (the first set anyways). i would have kept my room clean for a year when i was 5 to have a fizzy! all i ever begged my mom for as a child was an adult unicorn.

finaly got my first one 5 years ago (red roses froma friend) and then i got Windy :)

anywho... back to the topic at hand...

I think the Twinkle eyes are sought after in general, they are a pretty set when all together.
Mimic seems to be a love hate pony.

ive always wanted a mimic since i seen her in a video. I didnt know what she was worth but i just thought she was pretty. But saying that someimes she does look wierd in her ebay pics.I think it depends on what light is on her. I still dont have one though :(

mimicno1fan-
awww! It sucks to not have your favourite pony!

I wanted her ever since I saw her in the ep she was in. I also like her pose. I'm so happy to have her, I think she is pretty pony.

To be perfectly honest, when I found my Mimic (near mint at a flea market), it was before I even knew about any online community (I found her in the late 90s), so I had no idea what she was worth, or potentially going to be worth. She was just the last TE I needed for my set (I found all the others, including Bright Eyes, with relative ease at my flea market, and all in very good to mint condition, whith the exception of Sweet Pop and Whizzer, because I had those as a kid).

So the only reason I wanted her was to complete my set, and the TEs were one of my first sets that I completed.

I wasn't calling ANYONE an idiot, where did you get that?! I don't think anyone on the TP is an idiot, and if you like Mimic/want her, I don't think you're an idiot. If you WANT Mimic, good for you!! That doesn't make you stupid, and nowhere did I say it did. And I never called Mimic the ugliest pony, I think there's some uglier than her, I'm just saying, from all the pics I've seen, she looks mustard-green, an ugly color. :?

And obviously you and I have different definitions of 'bashing'. I was just joking, if you want, I'll edit the post. In fact I will, I'll just take off the stuff you appear to have an issue with. I was just warning Mimic-lovers not to look if they don't want to see me rambling on and saying 'uggo' every other word. o_O

And do NOT even get me STARTED on opinions. I'll turn this into a HUGE rant quicker than you can say 'oops'. Just don't even mention stating opinions, or I'll go off on a tangent. :?

Ahh, thanks for correcting me, I had just assumed that they would swap out ponies for others. Oh no, I'm assuming again. Everybody run.

Alright, so not ALL girls didn't like her. The majority most likely didn't. It's weird that your mom wouldn't buy her for you, my mom would just be like 'Whatever, see if I care what pony you get'. Hrm, I must go back & edit me original post. :?

Its alright spooky, relax. You said your words correctly. People are just relating that they like and dislike mimic in response to the general topic i think.
