So Im certainly no expert on monster high restoration. I know far more about ponies and more info exists on ponies to begin with. I do think im pretty decent at restoration of MH tho, not an expert, but gets the job done. However, theres one situation ive been unable to fix.
Ive thrifted two Abbey Bominable's on seperate occasions that have very obvious yellowing. I could be wrong but im assuming it could be the adhesive/paint they used to apply her body glitter thats yellowed. One of my Abbeys I have washed, Ive used a magic eraser, and ive caked her in a baking soda paste at least 5 times. It did help the yellowing a little but didnt remove it. Does anyone know a better way? Does anyone know what Salon 40 would do to a hard plastic doll body? Any help is appreciated <3 (pls forgive any typos im about to fall asleep  )

I got this little friend to be as white as the round cap on its left again. This is Sprinklebutt, he is my happy rainbow unicorn sprinkle dispenser :D

Sunfading shouldn’t hurt to try! I’d just keep a closer eye on it since the plastic is different.
I will have to give it a try >.>"

Thats wonderful! :O You didnt notice any brittleness or negative changes to the plastic? Also, Do either of you two know if just setting her in the sun with salon 40 would work? Or if since its activated with heat, it I could just wrap the spots in foil and heat them with a hairdryer? I dont have the supplies or money for a light box. Thank you <3

I didn't notice any change to the plastic, but who knows what effect it could have as time passes? I got good results this summer with a pen covered Peachy just using my art room window. It faces the sun, so it was pretty strong. I have not tried heat directly, but it can get pretty sweaty in the ol' light box

Remember to clean off and reapply every 8-12 hours, and I like to put my toys in a plastic bag or cover in cling film to keep the salon 40 from drying out too fast. (this is not a must, though)

Ooohh thank you for the tips!! <3 I wondered about the heat bc thats how salon 40 is used in hair, applied, foiled, then heated? Thats why roots have to be done last bc the heat of the scalp makes it work faster. I supposed I could always try it! Push come to shove I could always buy replacement bodies but I would rather not when these bodies are fine and not broken.

I have also seen people remove yellowing with an etching cream which removes the top yellowed layer on some plastics but Id rather not remove her glitter.

Etching cream? Thats interesting! I used to be in the BJD community and they would straight up sand off the top layer of plastic to get the yellow out of the resin!

I havent had a chance to get any salon 40 cream yet ;_; Im gonna have a lil more money in the next couple months so im hopefully gonna try it sooner rather than later! Thanks for checking in <3
In the meantime, you can stick her in the window without it :D

I would but I worry she might full body fade to yellow if thats what made her yellow to begin with :O im not sure how it works with hard plastic.

I honestly dont know :O I appreciate the help <3 im not sure what made her yellow. The parts of her underneath her clothes remained blue and her forearms and hands remained blue too but they werent covered. So idk? Its weird haha ive had three Abbys with this issue and their forearms and hands never yellow. I replaced the body of one bc her leg was broken off and her neck cracked. I wonder if its just the clear glitter coat just being prone to yellowing?
