Movie suggestions?

My birthday is coming up this week and in my family the birthday person gets to pick the food and a movie to watch while we eat. I always pick a fairytale-ish movie (last year was The Wish Dragon, the year before that was one called The Secret of Moonacre) but I can’t seem to find any that I haven’t already seen
So does anypony have suggestions of fairytale-ish movies that they like? Maybe one of you knows one that I’ve missed

It’s a little different… I liked ‘Age of Adaline’ on Netflix. ‘Dark Shadows’ was odd. ‘Rise of the Guardians’ and ‘Big Fish’ are good. Disney+ has loads of movies, ‘The Princess Bride’ and ‘Ever After’ among all the classics, musicals, marvel, and animated movies.

The 80s movie Legend has unicorns and dwarves, etc i havent seen it but its rated PG has a cute long haired Tom Cruise , Willow is a favorite of mine, very fantasy. Another favorite is The Labyrinth which also an 80s movie with David Bowie, Fairy Tale:A true story, The Spiderwhick Chronicles, Nico the Unicorn! If i think of any others I'll add them!

My favorites are The Golden Compass, the Narnia films, and Stardust. Have you seen any of those? Also it's not fantasy but James and the Giant Peach is a very whimsical film.

Some great suggestions already! The Princess Bride, Rise of the Guardians, Ever After, Labyrinth, Willow, The Chronicles Narnia reboot (especially the first one), Stardust, and Howl's Moving Castle are all ones I can personally recommend too.

Some other great 80s/90s fantasy cartoons I can rec are The Last Unicorn, The Flight of Dragons, The Hobbit, Quest for Camelot, The Secret of Nimh, The Thief and The Cobbler, Anastasia, The Swan Princess, An American Tail, Thumbalina, The Pagemaster, Ferngully, Cats Don't Dance, Prince of Egypt, The Road to El Dorado...

Dark shadows was odd haha, I saw rise of the guardians and of course princess bride and ever after are amazing I’ve seen them both a ton! I’d never heard of Big Fish, though it seems like it might be a little sad. Age of Adaline looks promising, maybe not fairytale-ish but definitely magical

I saw legend when I was little and the big devil guy scared me lol I think it was pretty good though, Willow was good too. I haven’t seen Labyrinth yet or Nico the Unicorn but that one definitely looks like my type! And Fairytale: a True Story is one of my all time favorite movies!!! Nobody ever knows it when I talk about it though

The Golden Compass was really good (the movie, I never read the book), I did see the first Narnia movie but for some reason those ones didn’t hook me. And I loved Stardust Did they do a James and the Giant Peach movie? I liked the book when I was pretty young

Howl’s moving castle?

A very good suggestion it’s my friend’s favorite Ghibli movie so I’ve seen it many times

There was the BBC Chronicles of Narnia that I grew up with so the 2005 version is the reboot/remake to me lol. There's also an animated version but I don't remember it being particularly good.

Quest for Camelot is one of my childhood favorites, if I take the nostalgia glasses off I can see it's flaws but I still love it. The gryphon is probably the best character lol. The Pagemaster is a fun adventer with Macaulay Caulkin, Whoopi Goldberg, and other great actors.

The Theif and the Cobbler has multiple releases versions, mostly due to being in and out of production for 29 years and also being passed around studios. Most fans consider The Recobbled Cut to be the most complete and you can find it on youtube for free.

*Edit* Also Anastasia is totally worth a rewatch! The film is gorgeous and the story is wild and only vaguely historical accurate lol

If you're looking for something a bit more upbeat, my family also enjoyed Strange Magic. It's about fairies who sing and fight! My sister loved it so much, she not only bought the DVD, but also the CD! (Notice I'm suggesting fantasy movies I watched with my whole family as well? ^_~)

I'm also a huge fan of Flight of Dragons, based on the Dragon Knight novel series. It isn't a 100% accurate depiction of the first novel, Dragon and the George, but all of the changes are clearly intentional. You can tell it was made with fans of the book in mind, but is still enjoyable without having read it. (I originally watched it as a kid with my brother before reading any of the books and loved it. Even after reading the books, I still love it!) That said, I can see how it might not be a movie for the whole family. Hope you enjoy it on your own!

Strange Magic is indeed the one that used pop music. Until I saw it, I had a hard time keeping it straight with Epic, another 3D film about fighting fairies released around the same time. I don't think it had quite as high of a budget as Strange Magic, but is still a fun watch. Epic focuses pretty heavily on the importance of maintaining balance between life and death/decay in the forest.

Although it's a TV series, you might enjoy Pirates of Dark Water if you haven't seen it before. The animation is absolutely beautiful! I go back an rewatch it every few years. With only 21 episodes, it isn't a super huge time investment.

Oh I have heard of Wolf Walkers, I thought it sounded cool cause it’s 2d animation (I’ve always preferred 2d).
I haven’t seen Epic Sounds like another one to add to my list!
