Every month or so I see someone asking or talking about the Takara ponies here or on the Arena. Figured I'd gather all the information I currently have about them and compile a small site. All the info is from my tiny collection (1 real Takara and 5 fakie babies), heresay from other collectors, and what little there is available on the internet. You can find the link on my site here:

http://members.aol.com/brandiwst/woosiesponies.html

Also, I have updated my site with links to the Toy Shop magazine article that had interviews with myself and several other MLPTP members :) The links are on the page I linked above.

Any information that anyone here can add to my Takara site would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm also looking for someone who can read and translate Japanese to English for me very accurately as I'd like to get English interpretations of the Takara catalog pages.

Wow, I didn't know there were other animals too. The more I see them, the cuter they get. :D

Hi Woosie...I have a couple Takara ponies I can take pics of for your site. I have one Adult MIB and one yellow baby (altho, I think she is a fakie).

I was going to do an "spotlight" editorial on the Takara for Pink-Aisle.Com, but you seem to know alot more about them...If you'd like to do an article about them for the pink-aisle site feel free to email me or inbox me here. :D

..

I recently bought four. One of the ones I recently bought says takara inc 1986(I'll have to double check to make sure that is the right year on it as I put it away) Japan on it. Its hair is rooted differently then the other three I have. The hair is much thicker. And the plastic is alittle harder than the others. I think the other ponies are fakies. The one that says that on it is a pastel green with a white nose and thick white hair. Even the tail is different then the others. I will try to get pictures for you soon. Kcat99 thinks that if they say takara inc, (the year)and then Japan that those are the real takara babies. Maybe like the us mlps the takaras were sold in different countries?

fakies

mlpsayuri, we bought our fakies from the same source, and I don't believe they are real even though a few may have the Takara mark. The ONLY way that anyone would be able to say for sure that a Takara style baby were real is if we can find a DEFINATE authentic baby to compare them to, which no one has come forward with yet. As far as I know, even Kcat doesn't have a real baby to compare others to yet...saying that you think it's real because it has the logo is just a theory, not concrete fact. Hopefully the little site I made will encourage more people to bring their information out into the open so that there won't be any debate's any more, lol.

Also, a theory that MAY be possible is that maybe Takara sold off some old stock to Palau Toys or something...that is not beyond the realm of posibility. Please send me pictures of the babies you have and I'll add them to the site.

..

I didn't say it definitely was a takara. I just think its werid that that company sells some supposted takaras with out markings and some that say japan on them. Its werid. I'm with you, I too think that they are fakies. And love them just the way they are. Its just strange that one of my four is different. But like you said I don't think its anything special. So no one has found them moc? I thought someone had one time. And bought some from holland. (those must of been fakies too) I wish I still had that pic. I wonder if the babies ever even came out. lol Your so lucky you have a adult woosie. She so cute.

takara ponies

I didnt realize Takara made ponies- they are so cute! Iknew about Takara Jenny dolls, but that was it. Thank you for sharing with us Woosie!
BTW have you guyes seen the Bratz ponies? they sorta remind me of the Takara ponies- saw them at walmart today- they arent as cute as the Takara's but thier concept is similar in thier make.
*shrug*

hehe

Yeah, the Bratz ponies definately share a resemblence (their heads anyway). I collect them myself because I think they are adorable, though I only have the sitting brown one so far. Oh, and interesting note about the Bratz ponies: They have the same hair that Restoredoll.com sells.

I've been checking the Japanese Yahoo auction site for years now and never ever came across one of the Takara ponies. They must be really, really rare even in Japan.

Here are pics of my Takara Ponies...well, the baby prolly isn't takara..but ya know what I mean.

The pic above is from when I first purchased the pony from Japan....she has since been packed away with my other ponies. I'll dig her out later and take better pics. It's still sealed so I'm reluctant to open it for deboxed pics.

This baby was found at an antique mall-type store here in San Francisco, just recently. I think it's a fakie, altho one thing it does have in common with the Takara babies, that most of the other fakies don't...are the eyes. The eyes have two white dots in the same fashion as the Takara babies pictured in the '85 catalog.

The only info I have on the Takara line is it must not have went past 1985...as I have the '86-'88 Takara Catalogs and they aren't featured in any of those.

:D

Eeeee! Cute cute cute! I can't wait for more pics of the MIB one. I was wondering if you could take pics of all angles of the box?

Oh, and 4 of the fakies I have (the Palau Toys ones) have the 2 dots on the eyes. I'll be sure to add the information about the later Takara catalogs not having the ponies to my site. I wonder if they were only sold that one year (1985)?

:)

Just added the information from mlpsweetberry, and a load more disclaimers to my site so people know I'm not professing to be an expert on these ponies. It's going to be an ever changing site as more information comes to light.

Just curious, what are the sitting baby fakies actually worth? I found a couple of days ago, just curious. The fakie with blue hair has her front feet on air and looks a bit better quality than the awful-shade pink with purple hair and has two rows of hair, but the one with purple hair has much sharper eye paint than the blue-eyed one.

(please ignore the DG newborn)

Woosie, I picked up a bunch of the fakies this summer 'cause I thought they were so cute ^_^

You're welcome to use them in exchange for a credit ^_^ They have no identifying markings on them, but if there's anything else you'd like to know, just ask.

hehe

Milky Way, how adorable! I'm definately going to add your pics to my site, I'll be sure to credit you. Also, were they all picked up around the UK? So far I have fakies on my site (and coming soon) that were found in the USA, Sweden, and Spain so I'm trying to make sure I have all the locations listed with the fakie's pic :)

Same for you Lahti, where was yours found? And can I use your pic on my site? Valuewise I've seenthe baby fakies range from around $4 - $15 each. I'm always open to trading or trying to purchase (if I'm not broke) the little fakies to add to my collection.

I found mine in a flea market in Finland. I've seen them around rather often in here. And yes, you can definately use the pic :) Thanks for the estimate!

Woosie, I found a third Takara fakie baby and retook the pic, so you might want to use this one instead of the one with the DG-fakie baby;

They're odd, really, because this blue one is again clearly a bit better quality plastic than the pink one, a bit smaller than the pink one and it seems to have thumbs 0.o Ergh.
