I wanted to share the project that has been taking most of my spare time lately!

The backstory: as a child we had a village for under the Christmas tree made of yarn and plastic canvas that was stitched by my grandma. I love this village. I think it is such a unique village, no one I knew growing up had anything like it. Knowing my sister and I both have sentimental attachment to it, I have been searching for the patterns to make my own for at least TWO DECADES. I had finally given up hope of ever finding them... last November I was searching for something unrelated on ebay, and there was part of the village! It was a kit! I found a brand name!

Finally armed with more information than I ever had before, I was able to locate the patterns for all the buildings, plus 4 I had never seen! They were generously shared with me by some members of a fb crafting group. Then began my questto find yarn colors close to the originals and teach myself how to stitch and work plastic canvas.

Here is my finished village! I still have a train depot and covered bridge to make, but have decided to wait on those until after Christmas so I can focus of girft crafts for the fall.

And I have now discovered I really enjoy making plastic canvas projects and have begun to experiment with my own patterns...

More fun to come!!

That is awesome! I'm glad you found the patterns finally. I did the same thing with some old ornaments my parents had when I was young. I eventually found they were from a kit and managed to get one online....now it's piled up with the 100 other craft projects I have that maybe one day I'll get to but hey, at least I found it LOL
I'm intrigued by plastic canvas projects, I'm a sucker for holiday tissue box covers and you can find SO MANY cute styles. They even have a snowglobe one! Alas, another craft project in the bin LOL I'm gonna break an ankle or something one of these days so I can catch up on crafts

Ohhhh, the many, many things hiding in the craft closet waiting for me to get to them... I was doing so well for a while there. "No more buying things til you use some of the stuff you already have!" I said to myself. I honestly think I went almost a year working from stuff i already had.

Then i found the plastic canvas village... it sorta opened a flood gate... lol

I have made a Kleenex box cover too! I actually made that first, before i ever found the village patterns because I wanted to see what it was like to put plastic canvas together. I will take a pic tomorrow and show you. It was a fun project!

And now I have all these MLP plastic canvas ideas...

That is so cool! I love finding old patterns like that; especially one's with good memories attached. <3

More fun to come!!
I LOVE THIS POST SO MUCH! What a wonderful experience to find those cherished designs and get to make your own! Congratulations on your search proving fruitful! I'd love to see your other items when you are done and even when you have them in place at Christmas time! This post warmed my heart and made me smile from ear to ear! Thank you for the happy vibes!

Oh my gosh, the FUN my daughter and I could have making something like these! Thanks for the crafting ideas! These are super cute! I love the tissue box. Super cool! I wonder if we could make little houses her ponies could live in?

These houses are on the small side. But Mary Maxim has kits for houses larger. But I don't think they have any openings for ponies to go in/out.

I am part of some plastic canvas groups on Facebook that share patterns, and I have seen patterns for doll houses and stuff. Worth looking around.

Cute cute

Does anyone remember the plastic bins that strawberries used to come in? We made so many projects with them and yarn. <3
Yes! I miss those, they were handy!

Here is the second pattern I've been working on. Can you see what it will be when I get the backstitching on?!
