Just take a look at this. This park is in my general area. Parents letting their kids stand feet away from a gator as if he is as harmless as a poodle puppy. A new form of Texan Idiocy. Shakes head. I would be running, screaming and hiding on the hood of the car. Its like, "here is my son, would you like breakfast?" Sure lets stop and take photos of Godzilla crossing the road.

Edited: I found the quote

Einstein-"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I’m not so sure about th’universe."

You guys have gators down there? All we have to worry about in Canada is wolves, angry moose and wolverines and the further south you go the less of those things there are.
Oh also, blackflies. Literally the worst animal in Canada

Yes, we have gators in Texas and that park is not that far away. Even some Texans don't know we have gators. Lol I saw on the news just the other day a family watching a gator walking through an established neighborhood like it owned the place. It went down the block but, walked through each front yard. We have signs at lakes and rivers warning about gators. And on any good day you may see a cow running on the Interstate. Lol that happed once, but I can't remember why.

I'll say now what I said before, its sucky that we've gone so far into their territory that we have occurrences like this, where they have to come strolling across parks and driveways and will likely end up getting shot as an intrusion of dangerous wildlife even though we as a species are more a danger to them and have enough awareness to try and preserve their homes too. :( It makes me sad

I think some of this too is well meaning people buying baby gators for pets and then being shocked at the size they get so they think nothing of putting them in waterways whether its a safe place for them or not. argh

The same thing happens with iguanas, they're dirt cheap and cute when they're little, of course when they grow up they get massive and extremely aggressive. They also have sharp teeth (even though they eat plants) sharp, long claws and a powerful tail for whacking people that's 99% muscle and like 1% bone, if they bite you, you will need to get stitches. There is a pet store near me that sells baby iguanas and puppies from puppy mills and they claim they don't but they totally do because they're very specific breeds. Also they are the rudest people on the face of the earth, I'd much rather go downtown to the reptile shop run by a nice man or to the next town over to the big pet store where the staff are required to learn about the care of animals they sell and where their livestock are always clean and healthy.
I get really passionate when talking about irresponsible and neglectful pet stores, especially when fish, reptiles or invertebrates are involved because no one will vouch for them but everyone will be outraged if you don't treat a puppy properly.
Also they generally don't sell gators as pets, they usually sell caimans which are a smaller crocodillian but still big and dangerous.

Some people should NOT have pets. Or they should be treated the way they treat their pets. Animal cruelty and neglect is so sad. I believe God didn't intend for us to mistreat the animals he gave us charge over in the beginning, starting with Adam and Eve. I truly believe those people who mistreat animals WILL face a reckoning, and they'll have their own special place in Hell. *gets off his soap box*

Anyway...I would think most 'gators would have an instinctive fear of mankind and avoid contact with Humans. o_O

They're apex predators, without our guns and close enough to their snapping jaws, we're lunch

I have always shaked head when people take wildlife as a pet. Seriously who would wanna own gator, tiger etc. sure they are cute when they are little but they need so much care/space etc when they are big and how dangerous they can be.. I like big cats and I would love to stroke a tiger but never own one.. USA should consider making a law that no wild animals as a pet. Only for permission (for zoos, animal trainers etc.) it is allowed. We have no problem in Finland were to find home for abondoned lion or gator etc pets... These animals should not be pets they should be out in the free.. and theyre should be places were would not be human contact at all. More "safe zones" to wildlife!

Gators are never not a danger. They kill people all of the time. I don't believe they have any fear of humans.

They kill people specifically because they are scared of them, but they also know that they're big and powerful and they can hurt us badly

Wow, I can't imagine seeing a gator up close and personal like that. Closest I've ever been was in zoos. I can tell you I wouldn't be anywhere near it if I did see one out in the open. I love all creatures but I'll love him from a distance! Although I do have a track record of being pretty oblivious of my surroundings so I'd probably trip over him before I realized it was there but once I did you'd see how fast I can move!
