I am so happy to report that we just put a big chunk of money onto a credit card (a Care Credit card that was opened specifically to deal with a cat medical emergency and has helped with a few other animal medical issues and has carried a large balance since 2017). And now it is PAID OFF!

We had the "extra" money due to my husband being rear ended last month - insurance totaled our car and paid us out. So we decided to put the money too good use. And we hope to put another lump sum toward a second credit card next month (which has a much smaller balance). I can't wait to not have these monthly payments due to cards!

Just wanted to share my excitement about one of our first steps toward getting debt free.

That's awesome news! It's a great feeling. Congrats!

Yay! Congratulations! It feels so good to get debt paid. Like a weight off your shoulders.

I love paying stuff off, doesn't it feel good! This year we actually paid off the last thing we had other than our mortgage. It wasn't a whole lot, a loan from when we had some house work done and the last of student loans. Feels good though. One thing I always did when I paid something off was I just continued to apply that monthly payment amount to the next thing I wanted to pay off. So if the student loan was 100.00, once that was paid in full I kept paying that 100.00 in the budget but applied it to the next bill I wanted to pay off.
Now we just have our mortgage but hopefully I can get that paid off early too one day. I'm all about saving on interest so *knock on wood* hopefully we'll not have any major unexpected expenses come up.

That’s awesome! My brother was able to pay off his student loans last year and he was very happy about it too

Yes @Gingerbread we will be snowballing our payments too. What was being paid on that card will now go into the bill with the next highest interest rate. We should have a few more things like that paid off in a few months. Then we will start chipping away at the student loans.

Congrats @CJ Thimble Bright ! Anytime I have extra money I try to throw it at a bill. Bonuses from work, cashing out unused vacation, tax returns, I try to use most of it to pay down bills (maybe keep a little for a pony... ☺️) But it is so freeing to see that number(s) get smaller isn’t it?

Ooff. Pet expenses. I have a care credit account for the same reason. A cat needed surgery back on 2017. I still have the account open, if needed, for cats or dental.

Paying off a card in December, when most people are charging them, is an extra accomplishment!

I hope you husband was ok. Car accidents and insurance can be stressful to deal with, too.
