I recently purchased a big lot on ebay, and honestly, I'm still debating if it was worth it. Some pieces were, but one pony is giving me a headache. More on that later... I need to post about her in a restoration thread...
But first, when I opened the box it REEKED of cigarette smoke, I had to place it all in a separate room, it smelled awful.

Baby surprise came with a very cute necklace.

Cotton Candy was in best condition. Heart Throb came in with strange marks on nose and wings, like he was melted. Lickety split I need to pull her head off and fill her with hot water, she was dented on the side.

Bro the cutiemark is way brighter here than in real life, you can barely see it... I think she would have to be bait tbh, I could definitely give a crack at fixing her up, but Iidk if it would be worth it. I suppose I could figure out something.

SkyRoclet was for sure the cream of the crop. She is incredibly lovely.

Moon Dancer is currently drying, headless. Her head was removed before, And good lord did she smell. If any smokers are reading this, your girls do not want to smell like secondhand smoke, I promise you that.
Not pictured here is Cranberry Muffin, the one in the worst condition, as well as a blank white HQG1C, and Sundance is very lovely. She is WHITE and her hair had been curled. She just has box hair.
I really do love all my ponies here, and I've fallen in love with them, however if you do buy from the seller capuanoj34 on ebay be aware that it WILL reek of smoke.

NOW THIS probably made the whole thing worth it. I love themilovethemilovethemilovethemilovethem I gotta restore my butterfly island playset so I can open this and display them on the beach. Dw I'll keep the packaging.

If you made it this far, thanks for reading!

Sounds like a great haul! Pity about the smell

I've been able to get cigarette smell out with a couple days of cold oxy soaking. It's easier to budge then strong perfumey smells.

I had one lot come smelling like dryer sheet or fabric softener. I soaked and scrubbed them for days. I still can't really handle them much without burning sinuses, but at least they don't trigger a headache.

It's weird how people can be obvious to such strong scents/ashtray smell.

I absolutely hate it when sellers do not disclose from smokers' home. I always give a less than stellar rating if they do not disclose it and I receive items that stinks. Seriously, some people have allergies and such to the smell! No offense to smokers, it's disgusting.

But you can remove the smell. it takes time, it can be done. Oxyclean soak helps, putting outside in the sun too helps. Someone used coffee beans/grinds with success, as well as cat litter, which I never personally tried. I've also put a bowl of white vinegar with dryer sheets and baking soda in a box with the ponies (ponies outside of the vinegar, not in it) and it helped too to absorb the odors.

They're a beautiful bunch. Give em a good wash and then stick em in a plastic container with baking soda to pull out that cigarette smell.

Thanks for all of the advice!!! I hope I can get it out soon...

I had gotten a breyer who reeked of cigarette smoke...

I just kinda didnt touch him and let him air out for a long time lol

Nice lot! Sorry about the cigarette smell, that must be such a pain to deal with, especially when it soaks into the vinyl. Those kinds of things need to be stated up-front in the listing. Maybe the seller is noseblind to the smell.
