Ponystars from Acclaim : Pony Island Copy?

That's just not right. I really don't have anything else to say!

I'm sorry if I'm understanding wrong, but the issue here is not that they're both games modeled after my little pony, but rather that Ponystarts (back when it was Ponyvillee) took blatant copies of Luna's artwork and its using it for its own game. Now, if they had used their own artwork, I think at most, they would've been accused of being copycats, but I would roll my eyes at that, because there are several horse/pet breeding games out there.

Supposedly, Ponyisland's artwork is different enough from Hasbro's MLP line, that its not breaking copyright law. That's what I heard, anyway.

From what I understand, the owners of the site have cleared it with Hasbro. At least, that's what I've heard. XD

PonyIsland's artwork to my knowledge was cleared and is all right. As for PonyStars/Poney Vallee using Luna's art that is incredibly disappointing. If they wanted to do their own pony breeding game they should have hired an artist who wasn't going to just blatantly rip off someone else's art and attempt to pass it off as theirs or claim it was different when it clearly is not.

This issue has also hit the PennyArcade forums, which means it's gotten BIG in the gamer circle.

They've posted some side-by-side comparisons which are pretty enlightening.

And yes, Acclaim did go bankrupt, and there's some speculation that their name was bought out by a disreputable company.

In any case, this is bound to get interesting!

Since there are Hasbro traced art there, shouldn't Hasbro be notified as well? I bet if Hasbro decides to take action, then something will definitely come out of it. I'm peeved at the blatant copying as well since I've played Pony Island before and know that it was courtesy of Lunacat who drew the outlines for the game. Lunacat can always produce the originals of the drawing and put an end to the brawl.

LM did that! It seems to have lost steam already, so we've got to keep working to bring attention to this and get it corrected. I'm talking to another big name in gaming/entertainment news and seeing what he has to say. So far, he's remarked that the art theft is "blatant."
