I am so, so, SO excited about this!! G2 is my love~ I can’t wait to have my friends back!
Guest, The MLPTP's Fundraiser and Prize Giveaway will be returning on June 1st! Check out this thread for all the latest news!
OH, question, I'd be so curious as to how you want to do the seaponies! Seahorse or mermaid tail? Or some combination?
I do think it would be cool if there were seaponies with front legs so they could stand up (I'm imagining them being seal shaped) but there are so many seahorses that could be incorporated in a cool way.
I am super down for some straight-up proper merponies! That would be a dream come true, and G2 ponies would be particularly perfect for it.I have always pictured G2 seaponies as more mermaid-like! Mostly due to the issue of them standing on their own, like you say front legs to balance then the body turning into a tail that rests on the ground for plenty of stability. I do love seahorses too, maybe they’d have some fins or gills for the seahorse element? That’s definitely one that would take a few design sketches and some community feedback
I can totally see using the Weedy Sea Dragon as inspiration for another type of G2 seapony. It looks like it would fit their elegance quite nicely! Also hippocampuses (of course more like the merpony I like) are really cool. Unfortunate name but cool creatures. They were used in G4, sort of, but they called them seaponies and they transformed into hyppogriffs.View attachment 90191
These are the species of seahorses and sea dragons. Seahorses use that curly tail to hold onto things in the tide and blend in. Sea Dragons take the blending in to a greater level and resemble seaweeds. I don't know why Hasbro decided to originally go with the seahorse model, except they floated in water, with their heads above the surface, really well. They could have gone with Greek Mythology and done the Hippocampus style of beast whose tails curl around any which way like eels, but who retain the front two hoofs, and who sometimes can have metaphorical wings to show how fast they were:

Ooh i love the sketches they remind me a lot of the Bella Sara water horses! So pretty!I am super down for some straight-up proper merponies! That would be a dream come true, and G2 ponies would be particularly perfect for it.

Actually with that said, I've tried to find some lore on hippocampuses and haven't found much before! Where did you learn about this info?
The sketches aren't as nice/refined as what moonbreeze did, but I thought I'd try my hand at throwing together some of what's in my head.

The little seadragon pony fins, in my mind, are made of fabric. I realized after I drew it that the design would be probably pretty front-heavy, so it might be unstable, but.... it's for fun, and my excuse it that a lot of ponies aren't weighted well anyway.
Also I decided that the tail of the merpony on top would be indented, so the main part of the tail could be flat. I was imagining being able to bejewel the tail. I do also personally like the alt tail-fin design in the lower right side, though personally I like the pose of the top merpony more. c:
Also I thought about if the front legs of the merponies could be poseable... It doesn't work well for aging as the existing G2s show, but it could possibly make for some interesting results. You could theoretically stand them up.
Wait, this is so beautiful! If this happens, what would the cosmic G2 pony look like? I like the G1 look but it is extremely 80s and doesn’t quite fit the vibe of the 90s ponies as much.I am super down for some straight-up proper merponies! That would be a dream come true, and G2 ponies would be particularly perfect for it.

That pose is basically what most historical hippocampus statues ended as, so it has precedent)I do also personally like the alt tail-fin design in the lower right side, though personally I like the pose of the top merpony more
I think it seems likely that they used seahorses because... sea-horse! Also, I just realized while looking at this photo that the genus of seahorses is Hippocampus, so... its even double appropriate! These are the species of seahorses and sea dragons. They'd have to make new molds regardless for such distinct bodies so I think that that's the main sticking point for most other species. Perhaps for seaponies they'd be able to use the initial head mold and use a different body, to save resources? They could definitely do that for different custom poses, I think.o you might find that simply patching a G2 model horse versus making a new one might get in the way
Bella Sara mention!?!? Yes!!!! Not to detail the thread but... BELLA SARA!!Ooh i love the sketches they remind me a lot of the Bella Sara water horses! So pretty!

I had this little flocked mini figure that came in a pack of cards too

Haha yes! I used to love the cards, didn’t get to play one the site much though. I always wanted the Nyx figure ^_^Bella Sara mention!?!? Yes!!!! Not to detail the thread but... BELLA SARA!!
You mean the celestial ponies? Honestly it's kinda funny, I was thinking about them, too.Wait, this is so beautiful! If this happens, what would the cosmic G2 pony look like? I like the G1 look but it is extremely 80s and doesn’t quite fit the vibe of the 90s ponies as much.
I honestly didn't even know Bella Sara was a thing until maybe a year ago. I wish I'd known about it sooner, it kinda feels like I'm too late to get into it.Bella Sara mention!?!? Yes!!!! Not to detail the thread but... BELLA SARA!!

Same here! I didn’t think I’d like them then I held one in my hand and they were so tiny and cuteOoh yay! That’ll be exciting ^_^ I thought they looked kinda silly till I got one to put in a swap box and it was actually so cute in person
The hippocampus style is definitely what I was thinkingView attachment 90191

Also, as a Spunky the Camel owner, I should note that camelids (like Spunky and Cha-Cha) have cleft lips and cloven hoofs, not to mention knobbly extra bits that are particular to their anatomy like humps and ears, and that they're depicted in the dolls. So you might find that simply patching a G2 model horse versus making a new one might get in the way:

This is pretty much exactly what I pictured!Aww, they are great though! I like the idea of a leafy seadragon one too
G2 Hippocampus like designs were floating through my mind, a lot. One design I used for last year's MerMay at the MLPArena.
Once I've moved houses I will try to make a custom one. Been wanting to do that for a while now
And yass Celestial ponies are also on my customizing list! So many ideas!
@GraceRuby: Let me know when your website is up! I'd love to add a promo to LavenderLagoon.com and maybe become link affiliates?

Thank you so much for sharing this, it’s amazing!Official Update! This is the official Design Manual detailing exactly the specifics that the end products will be made to! Here you can see 3D renders of how the final ponies will look and a closer look at all the fine details I've been working for a year to perfect!

I was so excited when I saw it today from the manufacturer! They're going to start making the physical prototype next weekThank you so much for sharing this, it’s amazing!
