Rehairing G4 tails?

I have a somewhat rare G4 pony which I wrecked its tail by doing something kinda dumb

Im wondering if rehairing the tails on a G4 is really possible. The way I’ve seen people do customs in videos is just cutting off the old hair and pushing the new hair in, meaning that you can just pull it right out. Is that the only way to do it without wrecking the plastic?

This person was able to do it

But I haven’t seen anyone else attempt it.

Has anyone here tried to do it?

I have done it, you have to take the head off and cut out the neck plug. There is a washer etc in the tail just like other ponies. It's pretty interesting.

I’ve done it too but I find once the whole plug is out, it can come off easily again. I have started doing it where I don’t cut out the plug completely and half cut it and bend it (I don’t know if it damages the plastic though). I’ll get some pictures tomorrow to show you, it’s pretty late at night where I am now

Whoops, I forgot to take the photos today but I did it!

Okay, so here is the Pinkie who didn’t have it cut out completely. She needed a new tail and got it from another Pinkie. I didn’t want the pain of trying to do the plug thing so I tried to cut the least amount possible. When the body is warm you can just pop it out to the side and push the top downstairs and use tweezers to pull it out. Somehow it worked. Pushed the tail in as far as of course. This Pinkie was the first I didn’t cut it completely out from. Her tail is secured with the original washer ring and clamp from the Pinkie the tail came from because it wasn’t rusty at all and I wanted to keep as original as possible. Always remove the head before working on the plug!

Personally I prefer this over cutting the entire plug out now because it is a pain trying to get it back in the head anyway (for me) and also when you’re someone like me who likes to handle customs a lot for photos… I don’t like the head popping off a lot. If I could go back to redo my OC Atmos so their plug didn’t come out then I would but hey, they were my first G4 custom. I learnt along the way

Pinkie and Atmos. Pinkie’s neck line is just about as thick as it was compared to Atmos who has a thicker line. I don’t know if that’s from the cutting of the plug or just how it was anyway. You can’t really tell in this photo

EDIT: I also did the half cut plug thing on another custom and the tail is secured with small cable ties. That pony was a gift so I don’t have it anymore so I can’t say which way I bent the neck that time to put the tail in.
