Hello!

I have a handful of used G1 puffy stickers that have grime and loose hairs stuck to the backsides. Is there a way to remove this? (I tried a rubbing alcohol pad, but it didn’t help much.) I don’t care if I lose the remaining stickiness that is left; I just want them to be less gross.

Thanks!

personally (Don´t take my advice pleaseeee) I just use glue for the backing and than never thing about the back part of the sticker again lol, but I don´t know, I went to do some research to try and help you out and I saw alot of stuff I could recommend but it´s like...would that even work? If you want me to give you the info just message back!

Hey! I’m so sorry for taking sooooo long to reply -- the notification went to my spam folder and I just saw it today -- UGH! I would definitely just glue the yucky used side of the stickers if I knew I wasn’t ever going to sell them, but collectors can be so particular about condition, y'know? It’s tricky!

Goo Gone? Or a little cooking oil on a Q-tip.

The problem with solvents, is that they might melt the backing. So you probably don't want to experiment.

I hadn’t heard of using cooking oil -- interesting! But yeah I definitely don’t want to compromise the actual plastic or image, so I probably chicken out.

Cooking oil, or Goo Gone, won't harm it. You'll likely just get some oil on your fingers at worst. But use the Q-tip to control how much you use and to gently scrub.

Goo Gone, and similar products, are made with orange oil and will leave an orange scent.

Solvents that you would want to be cautious of: acetone, ronsonol, heptane (Bestine). These are all used to remove adhesives, with that last one, Bestine, being used in archival restoration as it's mostly ink safe. So, say if you ever have a box with funky looking old brown packaging tape from the 80s.

Thank you so much! This is super helpful for a new collector like me!
